It's perfect for a day with Family - i definitely recommend the boat ride, which can take 1hour or privately 1,2 or 3 hours. Great for walks/ runs along the river. Playground for kids and park just next to the train station. I had a choice to go to Dublin in the morning with my7 year old to spend time there until the evening (travel back home) or stay in Athy - stayed in Athy and had a great time, the more that my hotel (Market House B&B) kindly agreed for us to keep suitcases in the room so we had 'hands free'.
The museum was not open yet but once it will be open it adds another attraction to the visit.

The house was very confortable and the hosts kind and helpful. We stayed there on a longer trip but we didn't visit Athy except for St Michael's Church in Barrowhouse (less than a km from the house). From there we went to the Wicklow Mountains and Glendalough in less than an hour, that's why we chose Athy for a night's sleep on our way. Our hosts made us wish to stay longer and get acquainted with them and their ponies, something our children would have gladly done.

Athy seems to be suffering from the amount of traffic flow through the high street...possible cause of the dereliction?
A lot of shops and houses boarded up which did not make the town feel very safe although it did make an interesting photo opportunity
More traffic on the canal would help reduce the smell as using the locks would move the water
When the new by pass opens it should help remove the large number of lorries

The house was clean and tidy, and didn't feel cold at all. Teresa was kind and friendly. The breakfast was tasty. The room was spacious. The view from the dining room was lovely. It is situated in a quiet corner of Athy, making it the perfect place to take a rest. Overall, I had an enjoyable stay here.
It was a private residence with a nice host. Welcoming and polite, and ideally located just outside of the town. Convenient and suitable for anyone wanting to sightsee around Athy along the canal and town

Lovely hotel. Spotlessly clean. All the staff were very friendly and made us feel so welcome. Food in the bar was excellent.Would definitely go back again.

The host was such a nice lady. She even collected me from the hotel the wedding was at, and at 5am! She also dropped me back to the hotel when leaving.
