Apartment was large and fully equipped with everything needed. From washing machine (and detergents), drying machine, iron, hair dryer, umbrellas, all necessary utensils for cooking, sparkling clean. It is located in a very central area. Heating worked wonders for the cold days. There is space for five people to sleep. 2 single beds, 1 double bed and one sofa. Two tv's, extra pillows. The kitchen even has oil, vinegar, salt, coffee, sugar. Great value

The apartment was spotless. The bathroom and shower were great. A very efficient air conditioning system. There was a laundry room, just what I needed! Breakfast was brought to the apartment the following morning at the time I asked for. The young lady owner was pleasant, professional, and helpful. There is plenty of space to move around. TV in each room. A very comfortable stay.

I chose Castellaneta in order to walk part of the Via...

I chose Castellaneta in order to walk part of the Via Ellenica (the stages from Mottola to Matera, with travel to and from Castellaneta by bus), and this was successful. Most days I used the SITA 710 bus route between Taranto and Matera. Castellaneta station also gives access to Taranto and Bari, but is a couple of miles out of town with a haphazard bus service. Castellaneta old town is pleasant although quite compact and doesn't really have any spectacular sights. It's almost entirely residential, and to find shops and restaurants you'll need to go to the new town. When you explore you find that Castellaneta old town is perched on the edge of a huge ravine (as are the other towns on the Via Ellenica towards Matera). Finally many grillaio (kestrels) come in summer, a delight to see.

We wanted to go to Castellaneta to see the Rudolph Valentino...

We wanted to go to Castellaneta to see the Rudolph Valentino museum and Statue. The museum is a gold mine of information and artifacts from his life. The museum had a documentary film about his life and footage of film of his funeral in New York and Hollywood. The town is very pretty with several restaurants with high ratings. The old town has narrow lanes and many picturesque places.

A beautiful town, birthplace of the famous Rudolph Valentino...

A beautiful town, birthplace of the famous Rudolph Valentino, the conqueror of all women. It's located a few kilometers from the Gulf of Taranto. It made me feel like I was in Greece. A breathtaking canyon runs through it, a popular destination for hikers. The food is traditional, well-prepared, and reasonably priced.
