I don't think many people think of "going to the beach" in...
I don't think many people think of "going to the beach" in Rome, but it's only about 30 minutes away and costs $1.50 by public transit. The town itself is a little slow when not in high beach season, but there are loads of restaurants and shops to keep you busy if the beach isn't your thing. Public transport is great. The place is very unusual, there are mostly local guests of various profiles, sometimes you can feel unsafe even though there is a lot of police and the streets are lit. The center is small but nice and organized, there is a lot of good and cheap food. The great thing is that it is well connected to Rome, the train goes every 15 minutes and in 20 minutes you are in Rome, which is many times more expensive in every sense than Lida di Ostia. Lovers of good beaches and the sea will not be impressed because the sea is shallow and you cannot swim in the depths because stone barriers have been installed, so all you have to do is splash around in the shallows, which are mostly cloudy because the beach is sandy. Ostia is a beautiful city next to the Airport and just a short ride from Rome. I truly love it there, in the last year I visited 3 times and I cant wait to come back. The sea view from our rooms was just great. Our rooms had everything you needed to feel good and were cleaned every day. The staff at the reception was super friendly, helpful and professional (huge thanks to the lady who spoke Polish and to Alessio!). The breakfast was good.
