This is a small town but perfect for conference or a few day escape from routine trip. Some attractions like shrines, few hiking trails and a railway museum are around. Kokura Castle in the evening during Cherry Blossom season was magical. Kokura Zoo is great. Slot car racing at Hunaudieres in Aruaru City was fabulous! Kitakyūshū Peace Museum is not to be missed, everyone should be required to experience this incredible place. Same goes for the Kitakyūshū Museum of Natural History! We visit Kitakyushu every year because we have family members living there. I love Kitakyushu because of how peaceful and less crowded it is and I know the place more than the other cities in Japan. The location is excellent - you don't even need to leave Kokura station. It feels safe and convenient. Staff was fantastic and very kind. There is a coin laundry on one of the floors and a convenience store just outside. The room is so, so spacious and comfortable. Standard amenities provided. This one is just as good as what we have experienced in other cities. Clean, comfortable, very helpful staff. We were initially put in a room right below the smoking floor. The cigarette smell was too strong. They immediately arranged for a lower floor room away from the smoke. Love that their bathrooms are big by Japanese standards. Rain shower is excellent.
