This hotel is simply superb! It is big and spacious. Located in the middle of nowhere, that is in the Akan-Mashu National Park on the shore of the Kussharo Lake, it includes plenty of attractions for guests to stay on its premises. A game arcade, karaoke rooms, a convenience store, wooden chairs in the backyard... It is an easy ride to local lakes and hiking trails. The room was big, modern, well equipped, clean. The majority of staff spoke English, everyone was super kind and helpful. Dinner and breakfast buffets, although pricey, were amaizng, versatile, delicious. We had an amazing stay there.

One of the Exceptional experience while we were traveling along east part of Hokkaido. Happy hours at bar is great. Dinner was buffet. We enjoyed really fresh food with loads of choices. Superb and amazing.

It was a lovely stay. The dinner each night was immense. The indoor onsen was really nice - I didn't use the outdoor one. The location is perfect.

I stayed at Kawayu Onsen.

I stayed at Kawayu Onsen. The hot spring water here is very unique and amazing. It's one of the most acidic hot springs in Japan. It really brought home to me the town's great potential. The Kawayu Onsen Visitor Center is very well-equipped, so I highly recommend visiting it first to get information about the town. I also highly recommend Mount Io. The steam that erupts from it reminds you of the Earth's activity. Parking here costs 500 yen for a passenger car.

Those who rent a car probably won't have any problems, but...

Those who rent a car probably won't have any problems, but since I don't have one, I traveled by bus. I used the Akan bus to travel from Kushiro to Lake Akan (staying at Lake Akan), from Lake Akan to Lake Kussharo (staying at Lake Kussharo), and from Lake Kussharo to Abashiri (staying at Abashiri). Along the way, I was able to see Lake Mashu, Mount Iou, Sunayu, Bihoro Pass, and more, so I was able to enjoy the trip even without a rental car. However, there was nothing around the hotel at Lake Kussharo, so I enjoyed the quiet and leisurely atmosphere while looking out at the lake. I recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing trip.
