FAQs about hotels in Tokyo

See It to Believe It!

The capital of Japan, Tokyo is a vast, teeming metropolis nestled between mountains and Tokyo Bay. It’s so huge that you’ll have to come to grips with public transport and maybe even experience being pushed onto a train. Yes, it does actually happen!

Get your bearings by ascending the Tokyo World Trade Centre near the waterfront, and savour the fantastic views taking in the red-and-white Tokyo Tower and Shinkuju’s skyscrapers. North is Ueno, home to the best museums (including the Tokyo National Museum) and a large park bursting with cherry blossom in spring.

Equally tranquil are the Chiyoda Imperial Palace and Gardens, surrounded by water. Also in gardens is the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine in Shibuya, a youthful district where neon abounds.

For more traditional Japanese culture, head to Asakusa whose Sensō-ji Buddhist temple is Tokyo’s oldest temple. Markets in the grounds sell a variety of wares, though shopping in Tokyo is, of course, fantastic wherever you go.

Whether you stay in a Japanese ryokan, luxury Tokyo hotel or a hostel, don’t fly out of Tokyo Narita Airport or Haneda Airport without having tried sushi. Another Japanese institution is the sento (public bath) and onsen (hot springs bath) – a must try. Also incredibly popular are Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Asia’s 2 most visited theme parks.

Tokyo is the largest city in the world (37M), yet everyone is so respectful and civilized! The city is completely safe, and it is the cleanest city I've ever been. Every street and car is completely spotless, even after a rainfall; including the garbage and delivery trucks. The subways are spotless, and everyone going to work is dressed very well, stylish hair/make-up, with spotless shoes (yes, they even pay attention to their shoes!). The people are very respectful to each other that you will not even hear a single car horn or see anyone walking around talking on their cell phone on "speaker" (like in North America). Pedestrians do not J-walk, and cars do not speed or have any sort of "road rage", like in North American cities. The only J-walkers were tourists!!! Drivers respect pedestrians, and pedestrians respect drivers; you just don't see that anywhere! We have never gone to a city where people are so respectful, civilized, honourable, and polite! People don't talk loud, they actually smile+bow and say please/thank you constantly, and they never make a scene. We are utterly impressed with the Japanese, just very honourable and a highly sophisticated culture! p.s. And yes, the food is plentiful, delicious, and cheap, as well as the shopping!

We travelled the whole of Japan for two weeks before staying in Tokyo for 3 days, we have been to Tokyo before for two days and we love the place, just wanted to come back. This time, as we have now travelled a lot of Japan, we noticed that Tokyo doesn't really offer much more than the other places other than more crowds and more expensive pricing, but this is the same with any capital in a country. Just be aware that there is more of Japan that is even more beautiful. Next time we will just have the one day in Tokyo and enjoy more of the country! But, if what you want is everything in one area and don't have the convenience to travel, then Tokyo is fine, just get out extra early and I mean 5 or 6 am, because it gets crazy busy at night, so busy you literally can't move!!

One of the greatest cities on Earth without a doubt. I think it's easy to spend a month here and not get bored. Lots of diverse sights and attractions from the traditional cultural to high-tech, culinary and fashion ones. And on top of it all, an extremely efficient transport system - and it's fairly priced too!

Excellent location - super close to Shinjuku Bus Terminal (buses to Disneyland, Outlet Malls, Narita, Haneda and multiple other day trips start from here), Shinjuku JR and subway stations and the Yoyogi station. It’s also a short walk to Meiji Jingu, Yoyogi Park and Harajuku/Omotesando. The rooms are comfortable. They also have a super convenient limousine bus service to both the airports right from the hotel lobby. Friendly and helpful staff too. Overall had a lovely experience and would definitely recommend.

The location was really good close to Shinjuku, there is an underground walk way into the station accessible from the basement of the hotel, thus was really convenient. The room we had , had a separate shower area. Which was really good as my husband has mobility problems and would not have been able to access a bath to have a shower
