We loved our stay at Taller de Juan. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive from the very beginning, the location is perfect for exploring San Cristóbal on foot, and the hotel itself is a gem — filled with greenery, beautiful spaces, and a clear attention to detail in every corner. The bed was super comfortable, we slept so well. We also had a hot stone couple’s massage that was amazing! deeply relaxing. The coffee and amenities were another highlight. You can tell everything is thoughtfully designed to offer an intimate, aesthetic, and special experience. We would absolutely come back.

Modern and comfortable room. Room cleaning and two bottles of water provided daily. Reception helped with airport taxi. The street felt safe and is a few blocks away from main walking street. No problem walking after dark. Sauna and jacuzzi included for 45 minutes were relaxing and spotless. Pleasant surprise was that our room was ready when we arrived before 10 am.

In all my years traveling I have never encountered as good a service as we got at Hotel Casa de Gandhi. An example could be, that we told them about our perfume allergies in the last minute and they responded and executed and adjusted to it immediately. Another example is that one of us was food poisoned from a local restaurant and again they were a big help. All of the standard things like cleaning and bed standards were in the absolute top and it was the most charming of places. We can’t recommend this place enough.

A beautiful and atmospheric place surrounded by mountains, with friendly streets and good restaurants at fair prices. However, it’s very frustrating that the hiking trails are almost impossible to find; people come here to hike, yet the national park was closed. In the narrow streets, the car exhaust fumes linger, and it’s hard to breathe; the traffic is extremely heavy, even though the town could easily be explored on foot or by bike.

The town is charming, the restaurants serving local cuisine...

The town is charming, the restaurants serving local cuisine are delightful and the summer climate is amazing. 15 degrees at night and 22 or so during the day with no humidity. There are many activities in or near San Cristobal and we enjoyed the local parks at Arcotete and Grutas del Mamut. Our dogs were able to run off-leash and explore the forest. We spent a month at a Spanish language school (San Cris) which was a wonderful place to improve our language skills.

This city is beautiful and great for walking.

This city is beautiful and great for walking. The sidewalks are not as difficult to navigate as in some other cities, but you still need to be careful and have grippy shoes for when it rains. The weather was lovely and cool; a nice break for us Texans in the month of June. We didn’t have nearly enough time here and we hope to return and explore more!

Gorgeous city.

Gorgeous city. Felt very local as well as having touristy ammenities. Unfortunately the trip to the Chiflon falls also includes a detour to lakes. The first is great, the second, not worth the time and effort. If you're adventuresom, go to the falls with collectivos instead. Chamula is really special. I went to market day at 8 in the morning and was the only foreigner. Like time travelling! The leftist cinema in town was really unique! The Na Bolom cultural museum was fascinating. I also had a terrific inexpensive meal there.

Definitely worth visiting and spending a few days.

Definitely worth visiting and spending a few days. Lots of really nice local eateries and the Mayan Textile Museum is worth visiting. Just wandering through the town is interesting. MUY Gallery also good. If you are thinking of doing a bus tour to Zona Arqueologica Palenque (via Cascadas de Agua Azul and Cascada Misol Ha) and you suffer from motion sickness think carefully. It is an 18+ hour day (4am ~ 10:30pm) with most of that in the bus on winding mountain roads and many speed bumps (a device used in Mexico to slow traffic down in towns). I learned the hard way.

A beautiful local town full of the vibes and energy that the mix of local peoples and outsiders brings. We found some online reviews mystifying with their huge exuberance about quite ordinary offerings but overall felt that the standard of both food and drink high. For money the Santander off Zocalo had a fee of M$34 which is acceptable but you need to read Spanish…it’s pretty obvious.

Very quiet and clean. The staff was efficient and helpful. We sent laundry through the hotel and it was an excellent service at a very reasonable price. Definitely a good place and recommended. There is water on every floor, you can fill up to the room or your personal bottle.

The hotel is very nice and cozy. We stayed in the apartment, which was way bigger than we expected and had an amazing porch and garden. The main street of San Cristóbal is easily walkable. Antonio is an amazing host. One of our best hotel experiences ever. Highly recommend it.
