Set in the jungle near Tulum, there are three pools, and a gorgeous green lagoon with bar and food service and extremely comfortable lounging, paddle boards and kayaks. We did both tours with the amazing Gonzo; Cenote underground water tour and the Mayan Village Tour on bikes. These were the highlights of our vacation so do not miss -- our older teens just loved them! During our stay we saw iguanas, bats, giant spiders, and a boa constrictor. Note, there were no crocs in the lagoon! There were three options for the included breakfast (plus a fruit bowl, granola, honey and yogurt, coffee and a fresh juice). Options were pancakes or waffles with maple syrup, eggs and bacon with salad, or a traditional Mexican chiquillies with an egg and green or red salsa. Each of our family had a different preference for breakfast which we enjoyed. Breakfast was so filling we could last until late afternoon until our next meal. As we had rented a car we visited nearby Akumal and Puerto Aventuras for meals (another traveler recommended AVIS for car rental). We spent four nights at Wakax. If you have a car, I suggest a three night stay so you can do both tours. BTW, if you have claustrophobia you may not like the cenote tour. The bikes are great fun, staff and owners are very friendly, the rooms are huge and right out of a glossy travel magazine, and the setting is out of this world!

I was in a little bit of shock when I arrived in Tulum. I was expecting it to be very different than what it really was in my experience. But this hostel only made my stay in Tulum to be pleasant. The reason I returned to Tulum during my travels was Botånica. The warmth of the hosts, the atmosphere, the music, the interior… everything here is just great. I instantly felt welcomed and as a part of the community. This place seemed to attract my kind of people. Warm, generous, somewhat spiritual, loving and open hearted individuals. No crazy parties or staying up too late. A special thanks to Fernando for making me and everyone else to feel like a part of family. He has a gift of seeing people for who they really are and to serve everyone as a friend, not a customer. If I ever return to Tulum, I will definitely come back to Botånica ❤️

Bardo is… unique… When arriving at night, at the front desk, we could already feel that the atmosphere was different then other places we’ve been too. At the very first step you make your way to your room, you know that you are on a journey. When passing by the pool with all those trees, plants, lights, and decorations it gets clearer why you came here. You can feel the balance and respect that has been put in between the style of the infrastructures and the nature that is surrounding it, making it a place of harmony. Once we’ve arrived at the end of the path to our room, we could only be amazed by the simplicity, authenticity and taste of decoration. We were about to live in connection with Mother Nature. The transformation starts here. Not only the hotel made us feel reconnected to nature but the themazcal made us reconnect to our true selves and we felt more alive. It’s an incredible experience that I recommend to anyone who meditates and is looking for a higher self awareness and spiritual connection. Also the staff made us feel welcomed and took great care of us at anytime and any moment! Special thanks to Jay, Fernando and Shio at the front desk, who were really helpful and devoted when ever we needed help; to Alejandro, Martin, Manual, and Martin for there smiles, positive vibes and sympathique but professional way of being; to Gloria and the massage team who are very professional and caring; to Diego and Claudia, for they’re open hearts, minds, spirits and amazing work; to the cooking staff for there delicious dishes; to the security staff, who made us feel safe; and finally to the cleaning and gardening staff that makes this places magnificent, cared, respected and always tidy. We had a wonderful stay at little Gem. The room was really spacious and clean and we enjoyed having the balcony as well. It is situated quite close to a nice street with restaurants and cafes in the la veleda area of Tulum. It only took us 5-10 minutes to walk there. The staff was so nice and and helpful and the kids were thrilled at the towel animals made up every day by the cleaners. We were a little worried about arriving late by car because others had written about the poor road but it is actually no problem as it is only the very last 5 meters or so that are unpaved with big potholes. We could park right outside the hotel.
