Love this place along with old Butcher shop accommodation across the road. We watched the goat and sheep getting sheared nextdoor.

Amazing!!!! Travelling alone, got a full Apartement! Cosy bed, tidy shower with good presure hot water. There was even bread and vegemite for the midnight crave when the bar at the hotel closed. Much more I expected. Thx!

It is literally the best accommodation ever. We being so happy with it. In the middle of nowhere, sort of, an entire house to yourself, with lots of hygiene products and toiletries and other stuff to use. Definitely not to forget the cat who lives there :) super friendly owner and cat. Privat area with just animals around. The owner brought us some eggs. Amazing mix of old and modern and amazing bathroom. Everything you needed was there. Definitely wanna come back. Didn't wanted to leave at all.

A friendly town (Republic) that you need to experience.

A friendly town (Republic) that you need to experience. A quiet street with just few buildings, some of which have been turned into accommodation, others that are displayed as part of the heritage trail. It all centres around the famous Whangamomona Hotel where you can get wet your whistle meet the locals and other travellers then get a good meal. (Check which days its open). Stay there, don't just drive through.

If you fancy an off the beaten track escape with a trip back...

If you fancy an off the beaten track escape with a trip back in time, this is the place to go! There was a farmers' gathering at the Pub the night we were there - 20+ pairs of gumboots at the entrance to the pub is a different welcome! The Whanga Butchery is about 30 steps from the Pub.

So this is not for everyone.

So this is not for everyone. If you are looking for entertainment, shops, nightlife, touristy-attractions, then this is not for you. However, if you are drawn by remote, genuine, quiet and an escape from the conveyor belt of life, and you are content with just being, look seriously at this.

We enjoyed a stroll around the village and the information on the buildings about the history of the area.Great to be able to get a coffee at the hotel before we left as it had been shut when we arrived the night before

Having been to this township previously we were drawn back by the history of the the area. We had dinner at the whangamomona hotel- an iconic building which sits proudly in main street. The evening we dined at this pub seemed quiet but a large group were booked in for the next night. we greatly enjoyed the open log fire in the bar which is where we had our meal.

Small settlement with oodles of history.

Small settlement with oodles of history. Quaint and the locals are super lovely. Take the time to wander the settlement, read everything and chat to the locals as they are full of knowledge. Pub is the hub, as is usually the case in a small town. Food is exceptional and hospitality is second to none. If you haven't been, get in!! It's a joy to behold in the middle of nowhere. Breathe in the freshness, exhale and relax. Key note ... learn how to say the name correctly!
