It's an interesting but busy and noisy city. The best parts are OUTSIDE the city. Waterfalls, mountains, scenic views, and the Blue Lake (Laguna Azul) are all highlights. It's a nice city but not as amazing as others in Peru. Plenty to do if you're young and adventurous, and some good attractions nearby including the town of Llamas and its Castle and several waterfalls. A lot of excellent restaurants and the "Plaza de Armas" (town square) is brand new and very impressive. The city is noisy, however, and the roads are a mess. Breakfasts were really nice - fresh fruits everyday, options of lactose-free milk available, eggs, cheese, coffee, oats, etc. In 6 days, we didn't get bored with it :) The staff was also very friendly and ready to answer any questions. I forgot how many days I stayed here, I started with three, but kept booking more nights. My room was cleaned every few days, new towels and tissue and Shoffis Mum did my laundry for a small price. Had some nice evenings on the roof top chilling!! Anything I needed to know about Tarapoto I asked and Shoffi gave me the information and sorted out a mototaxi for me to a local waterfall which was lovely.
