This area is beautiful, the views from the surroundings and from the Castle stunning. A hidden gem that you should visit at least once in your life (I believe some famous Portuguese author said the same about it). The walk using the "Passadiços" near the river is also great. Taking a canoe to explore around makes it even nicer. There are a couple of Museums that sound like they are worth the visit, but to be honest, I was always spending time outside. Might be a good reason to return. The restaurant O Castelo is worth it, but the same cannot be said by the restaurant at the Alamal River Beach. While the beach is great, I would not eat there. A very small town.
A very small town. If you're planning on staying several days, bring any needed beverages/snack foods with you, as there is only a tiny store in the town. It's a great place to visit while the medieval fair is on--in mid-June. Be warned that the local restaurants shut down so you have to eat at the stalls at the fair (good food; not a hardship!)Guest review byKathleenPortugal
