The staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is really good and the restaurant of the hotel has good food with affordable prices. The hotel is very well located in the Serra da Estrela, you can reach many different attractions from there. The city fo Manteigas is also very nice. I really recomend it.

This hotel is one which has been recently built or renovated next door to a restaurant and the tourist information centre on the way into the centre on a split level site. Our room was located downstairs from the main entrance and was located away from the main road with a view of the valley. There was free parking adjacent to the property. Breakfast was a good continental buffet which included a number of local cheeses, server three floors down in a room with a view of the lower valley. There was a selection of restaurants at various price points within a short distance of the hotel in addition to the more up market one next door (we tried The central for cheaper local food). The tourist information centre next door is worth a visit to get free walking route maps (using the European coloured flash way markers) in various languages distributed by a very helpful gentleman. There are a couple of supermarkets and bakery for picnic food.

Stayed with friends riding through Spain, Portugal and France on our motorbikes. Very pleasant overnight stay. Splendid rural location, clean and tidy rooms, friendly and engaging staff, cold beer and decent food too, from a buffet.. would happily return and recommend.

It's incredible. Feels like sleeping in a historical castle from 17th century. Having breakfast in the dining room feels like being a lord from old times. Great experience. Great breakfast. The host is also a pleasure to meet. There's also a common room with TV, chess board, billiard and more - again in a very elegant setting. Would come back anytime.

We were the only guests. The host and hostess were very attentive, but not intrusive. Bed was very comfortable. Room good size, excellent temperature control, wardrobe, fridge. Shower was amazing - large, hot and good temperature. Breakfast was exceptional....yoghurt, museli, fruit, cheese, meats, eggs, bacon, cake, coffee, juice... couldn't ask for more.

Not too much to do in the fall. Quiet city. Pretty city from far views in the mountain, very few places where you can try cheese selections with good wine. The wool factories are a key attraction like Burel. Finding great servings of the Serra da Estrela cheese should be easier.

We left a day early because the town is quite remote and we...

We left a day early because the town is quite remote and we were keen to move on. We are on a month long tour of Portugal though so a day didn’t make much difference to us. There isn’t much to do in Manteigas itself. Having said that, the guide in the local tourist office is exceptionally helpful and very knowledgeable about the region. There are some beautiful views as you drive in and out of the town.

Great base to visit the Serra de Estrela national park ,...

Great base to visit the Serra de Estrela national park , plenty of nature trails to walk and lots of sites to see . Restaurant places can be hard to find at times , i did end up with a pot noodle in my room one night ( a saturday night on along bank holiday weekend ) as we couldn´t get in a restaurant anywhere .

Beautiful spot, located in a fantastic glacial valley.

Beautiful spot, located in a fantastic glacial valley. Make sure you go to Ecola where they make the blankets that you see in all the shops in Lisbon, we went to look at the shop and ended up in being given a guided tour of the factory by the owner. He explained all about the colour of the wool and the different types of sheep and the huge number of processes they go through to make them. Manteigas is a really nice place to visit, local people are very friendly, and the town is well organised and clean, the restaurants are very good, but what is really special is the location, you are surrounded by amazing walks in the hills, the woods above the town are spectacular and I have never seen so much water, its everywhere.

Perfect tranquil environment to relax or to detox from toxic urban noises. The fresh mountain air rejuvenates you! The goats passing by in the evening with the shepherds is pure bliss! All shop owners were kind and helpful! Locals are friendly and helpful when asking about locals trails! My new place of solace.

We spent 3 nights here at end November, the weather was...

We spent 3 nights here at end November, the weather was pretty wet so we didn't do much walking. Enjoyed a Cheese-tasting evening, visits to the Thermal Baths and quick visits to the 2 wool factories. There's a surprising amount to do and see, we loved it.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the breakfast was delicious. Superb fresh pastries and a nicely cooked and a served hot breakfast. Our server was particularly helpful and friendly. Brilliant customer service. The location is also excellent with great views from the breakfast room located at the Fabrica hotel opposite Alojamento Santa Clara rooms. Sadly we were allocated a small attic room that was rather basic with uncomfortable hard twin beds The shower was good with good water pressure.

The location is great, very central. There is always free space to park in the street and the small market in the ground floor is quite convenient. Manteigas is very charming and amazing for exploring Serra da Estrela. The flat was spacious (we were 4), clean, and nice. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed for cooking simple meals. I would definitely stay in this place again. Love the stuffed goats in the rooms.
