We enjoyed our stay on this beautiful Island, the people,...

We enjoyed our stay on this beautiful Island, the people, the beaches, the quaint town with its lovely cafe's and restaurants. We had a great taxi driver Roberto Moniz who spoke English and took us on a day trip around the island, he gave us lots of information and historical facts. We went diving with Haliotis Aventuras Submersas and it was magical swimming with 30-40 mantarays. Hotel Colombo was nice and included breakfast. We stayed 4 nights because of flights only twice a week but did need a couple of extra days to explore. The proprietor at the local pub knew a lot of the Island and its history, great place to eat and drink. We went at the beginning of August and the weather was great.

Quite basic, but a decent hotel. Not much competition so they get away with being a bit less than you might expect for the price. What was good: - clean and decent sized rooms - mini fridge in the room - decent AC - good sized pool and large grass area and grounds - staff are nice - great spread of options for breakfast - patio doors into small individual terrace on every room

The cute bespectacled girl at the reception was so sweet and trying to help with the limited resources she had. She was the only positive thing in this hotel. And the pool was open. Location was convenient for me because it was close to the marina and I was going for a freediving course.

Casa da Avó is a fully equipped apartment with a large terrace in the old town of Vila do Porto. The shops, restaurants, and harbor are all within walking distance. Maria Helena (the owner) welcomed us personally and was friendly, helpful, and easy to communicate with.
