FAQs about hotels in Chiang Mai

The Rose of the North

Located among Thailand’s highest mountains, Chiang Mai is the beloved, idyllic and somewhat mystic capital of the North. Offering more than 300 temples, it is considered one of the most important cultural centres in the country.

Despite being Thailand's fifth-largest city, Chiang Mai still keeps a relaxed and laidback feel. Modernity, trendy shops and boutique hotels haven’t altered much of its picturesque and peaceful atmosphere.

This reputation is partly due to its proximity to mountains and lush green areas, like Doi Suthep Mountain and its panoramic Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. The Doi Inthanon National Park is 60 km away and comprises Thailand’s highest mountain.

Hotels in Chiang Mai’s old city centre are a popular choice, offering a more picturesque experience, with its moat and older temples. Chiang Mai hotels can also be found around the Chang Klhan Rd, where the famous Night Bazaar takes place.

The city’s nightlife runs along the Loi Kroh Rd, while Ratchadamneon Rd hosts the main Sunday night pedestrian market. Don’t forget to buy an umbrella from Bo Sang and eat a bowl of kao soi.

Whether you arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport or come by land from Bangkok, don’t miss 'The Rose of the North' deals on Booking.com!

Really lovely blend of city and country side

Really lovely blend of city and country side Lots to see and do Very cultural and diverse Lots of great coffee shops, food and sights Very temple heavy! Good luck fitting all 70 in the old city in! Easy enough to walk around or get a grab or songtow (shared taxi bus) 10-15 minutes from the airport Great overnight trip to Pai but the road is very bendy and may cause travel sickness but well worth it Smile organic cooking class is fantastic £20 pp, 3 courses, pick up and drop off. Main night market is hectic. All the same stuff at others, find a quieter spot!

I really love the vibe in Chiang Mai.

I really love the vibe in Chiang Mai. Enjoyed Wat Khang Bann the most. I went for CAD lantern festival, it was incredible experience. Mae Tang Elephant park and clinic was a good place, I watched VDO from the doctor who works to help elephants there, this place takes care of elephants really well. You can do Rafting here and visit long neck tribe in Mea Tang. Mae Khan Pong Village is a must place, you should stay for 1 night. Mae Chiang Dao is the best place to stay during winter Nov-Dec. You will see the fog sea and panorama view (recommend to stay with locals) The food was so amazing, I tried Northern food. The best Khao Soi is Lung Prakit Kad Kom (Recommended by local) It’s difference vibe. I love Phuket but when I came to Chiang Mai, I love here even more.

We loved our stay at The Grand Napat.

We loved our stay at The Grand Napat. It was away from all the business and close enough to walk to a restaurant. The hotel has a restaurant and pool. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There is so much to do in Chiang Mai and around Chiang Mai. We loved the town. We have not had enough time to experience everything.

We spent 4 days in Chiang Mai, came for the lights festival - lifetime experience! We visited beautiful temples in Chiang Rai and national park Doi Ithanon. So we have to come back to see more of this ancient town which we will do with pleasure! Would not recommend to people with mobility issues, temples have a lot of steps.

In the Wild Elephant sanctuary was fantastic and educational, staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the elephants were treating extremely well living in the jungle, the food which came with the experience was delicious Bazaar night market was brilliant, great food and items to purchase, Toom Jungleboy in art created our dogs portrait which we are so happy with and amazed how he made a 3D painting from a 2D photo. We also enjoyed kayaking and caving experience, the local food was awesome. We visited Love pet cafe and feed the Capybara and watched them play together. Night safari was excellent, loved the giraffes sticking their heads in the vehicle to be feed and licking us. We also feed zebras and other animals along the trail

Beautiful Temple in town and fabulous Temple in the mountains. Trip to the elephant sanctuary was a long drive but worth the trip. The night market is a fun walk about. Try the ice-cream rolls, a tasty fun experience. Tuk-Tuk's are very reasonable as are Grab(uber like ). My wife and I highly recommend the Peak Spa. We also really enjoyed Mamma Noi's cooking school. (with a hats off to our guide Nook) Kantoke dinner and show just OK.

The location in the old city was excellent with plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby. The hotel itself was lovely and the staff friendly. The breakfast had good selection of options. They upgraded me from a single room to a double room. The room had everything I needed including a kettle and mini fridge. I appreciated also the possibility to do some laundry for free.

Great place tucked away from the busy Old City. Very much Boutique hotel. Very authentic and traditional vibes. The people there were incredible, very hospitable and kind. Room was clean and comfortable. Pool was two steps away from our room and this was just an incredible setting surrounded by plants. We honestly loved our stay here and would highly recommend ❤️

Very friendly and obliging staff. Located inside the Old City walls so close to nighttime bars and entertainment. Close to some great restaurants. Especially the Dash Restaurant located directly opposite the hotel. Owned and operated by a 'British-Thai'. The absolute best Thai Food experience of our 3 months holiday in Thailand.

Breakfast was AMAZING. One of the best hotel breakfast I think I've had in a hotel that's not buffet style but a lacarte. The staff was lovely and the views to the old town pagoda infront of the pool was beautiful and gave my family the chiang mai experience they needed!

Lee Chiang Hotel is in a quiet area in the Old City center. Many temples are within walking distance and there was lots to do in areas nearby. The hotel owner is an exceptional and charismatic host, always willing to help! Quite possibly the best host we've ever had.
