What makes Palmera so special is its inspiring mission. The hotel and restaurant operate as a hospitality school for local young women, and the exceptional service they provide is a direct reflection of their training. From their warm smiles to their impeccable attention to detail, you can feel the genuine pride they take in their work. The hotel's setting is pure paradise. The infinity pool overlooking the turquoise sea is mesmerizing, and the lush, immaculately kept gardens create a perfect oasis for relaxation. It was wonderful to be able to walk barefoot through the fine sand and simply enjoy the tranquility. For anyone, but especially for vegans, the restaurant is a must-visit. The creative and delicious vegan dishes, all beautifully prepared and presented by the talented students, were a true highlight. It's a testament to the high-quality training they are receiving. The breakfast, in particular, was the best I had during my three-week stay in Tanzania, the homemade warm bread and homemade chocolate spread were unforgettable. For lunch and dinner, with main courses priced between $11 and $13, it offers exceptional value. This 15-room hotel is a quiet retreat. I stayed when it was almost empty and had no issues with noise, but even when full, the large garden and pool area should provide plenty of space for guests. The price range for double rooms in the 2025 high season was 70-100 USD. All rooms face the sea, though the view can be a bit limited from some of the downstairs rooms. While the large windows are beautiful, the curtains don’t fully cover them, which could be a privacy concern for some. I prefer a firm mattress, and the bed was perfect for me, but it might be a bit too hard for others. The solar-powered hot water worked flawlessly. The road to the hotel is a little bumpy on the last kilometer, but there are plans to improve it. In the bathrooms, I would have appreciated a bit more space to dry towels, or a drying rack on the terrace.

Outstanding hosts at Mandarin, feels just like home! We had a pleasant 2-nights stay and it was total relaxation for us. The ambience was great, very clean, all the staff were great, Chef Amir made the best of dishes (breakfast was also top notch) and extra stars for the GM Mr. Hany! There are different activities at Mandarin but unfortunately, we were only there to basically eat, sleep and enjoy the beach though I am sure they would be just as great. If you are looking for a great affordable place in Zanzibar then Mandarin Resort it is!

Location incredible. Unlike rest of zanzibar there is very very little trash and plastic floating around on the beach, and the water is clear. There is beach and nature as long as the eye can see and very little people. Owner is excellent and staff is very very nice - consider tipping them when you leave if you pay your whole bill upon checkout. At least if you usually tip meals etc. Room and privacy nice, private sunbeds outside room. No AC as one should expect from an eco-lodge, but a fan that works well. Room is good, Seaview and spacious. Big restroom. Relatively large village within walking distance. It is very interesting to walk through. There is a large large baobab tree with a staircase that leads up into the tree. This is nice, and cost 1 usd i think. Also you can buy cold soda and crisps etc in many of the local kiosks. Came here for Christmas, and I had maybe the best Christmas dinner I've ever had. Special Christmas eve package of 4 courses including lobster, and coffee and a cocktail for under 30 usd. Also great paella with lobster, calamari, octopus and tuna for 30k tsh the next day, also amazing. Very nice vibe and clientele was very nice and polite. Staff great!! They are lovely and I wish I could have gotten to know them by staying longer - maybe another time.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The cleanliness was impeccable, the staff & management were incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were delicious as well as other meals in the ocean view restaurant. The hotel boasts a large, green space, which added to the relaxing atmosphere. The rooms were recently refreshed and provided everything needed for a comfortable stay. Highly recommend.
