Very good breakfast selection with fresh fruits and juice. If we ever return to Zanzibar we'd definitely choose this hotel again. Right on the beach, very secure, superb swimming pool, with the best restaurant in the area. The staff is always smiling and friendly. Everything was spotless clean. This was our second stay at Boutique Villa Unaweza, and it was just as wonderful as the first! The entire property is beautifully designed and stylish, with every detail thoughtfully planned. The staff, from the restaurant team to the cleaning ladies, were all incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful, making us feel truly welcome. One of the special touches we loved was the yoga classes, which are a perfect way to unwind, and the occasional live music nights in the restaurant, adding a delightful atmosphere to the evenings. The rooms are spacious, impeccably clean, and designed for ultimate relaxation. The hotel is just a few steps from a stunning beach, ideal for peaceful morning walks. This time, we traveled with a rental car, and the secure parking made everything very convenient. The hotel itself feels incredibly safe, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. For instance, our flight was in the evening, and they kindly allowed us to keep our room a little longer, which was such a thoughtful gesture. This is without a doubt one of the best places to stay when visiting this beautiful island!

Do yourself a favor and book this hotel, everything was absolutely perfect! The food was delicious, the staff very attentive, the facilities fantastic, and everything was clean. A special mention goes to the General Manager, Kevin, who is by far the best GM we’ve ever met. He takes a genuine interest in each guest’s experience and goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is perfect. He even helped us plan our days on the island and recommended some fantastic tours.

The service was impeccable - from the security staff when entering and leaving the property, the reception staff always happy and eager to help, the restaurant staff was there to serve every step of the way and the excursion manager (Abdul) deserves a special mention. Matemwe was nice - the beach part.

Matemwe was nice - the beach part. Sad to see the poverty behind the gates of the hotel. The tides were a bit different from what we have expected as the water would leave the beach at 9am and return around 5pm. If you did not make it to swim early in the morning, you missed it. We took a reef walk which was beautiful, saw a lot of see creatures, and that was very amazing experience. Also took a boat tour to see the sunset - it was worth the trip. Did not like how the locals would just stop on the beach and start shouting at you to buy smth. Also the part of the hotel beach is not segregated in any way, which does not give you a privacy enough. The food was amazing though - the hotel goes much beyond - and all day brekfast concept was amazing.

Matemwe is ideal for relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family. Matemwe is near Mnemba island 🏝️ for swimming with dolphins 🐬 . We rode bicycles 🚲 around the village and the place felt very safe. There are few alternative places for lunch or dinner. Not too far from stone town.

Matemwe beach was huge and totally uncrowded - some days we were lucky to see 10 - 20 people pass by! Loved the Massai beach hawkers - friendly and laid back happy to have their pictures taken - no hassle or relentless chasing - once told 'no' they respected our space. Recommend a day trip to Nungwi for a completely different vibe and fantastic sunset. Matemwe is somewhat isolated and if you want to get around you need to secure the number of a local taxi driver - always bargain hard beforehand. Most hotels organise trips/tours but at a premium.

It was a quieter beach which was nice which also meant not too many people hassling you to buy things. Those that did were respectful. Beach is nice but the sea depth is very shallow most of the day so swimming wasn't the easiest and there was a lot of seaweed when we were there.

It’s very quiet, very few non hotel restaurants, overpriced...

It’s very quiet, very few non hotel restaurants, overpriced food everywhere, can’t swim in the sea unless you don’t mind knee deep water. There’s no town, or town centre outside the beach hotels, so a long stay would be challenging if you want more than just lounging by the hotel pool.

This is an excellent little boutique hotell with a nice position in the end at Matemwe beach. It has a good size pool close to the beach. A neat restaurant and a cozy lounge section. The hotell is the perfect size, not to big nor to small. The rooms are very big and tidy and the overall atmosphere is fantastic. But what really stands out is the management and staff. Super friendly and helpful in a most genuine way.

The beach of Matemwe is one of the best beaches. The location of this hotel is top. The room is big, comfortable and has a nice terrace. The beach beds near the pool are comfortable and next to the beach. The breakfast is very good and filling. The staff is very friendly. The manager is super friendly, helpful, professional and efficient and goes the extra mile to keep the clients satisfied.
