Location incredible. Unlike rest of zanzibar there is very very little trash and plastic floating around on the beach, and the water is clear. There is beach and nature as long as the eye can see and very little people. Owner is excellent and staff is very very nice - consider tipping them when you leave if you pay your whole bill upon checkout. At least if you usually tip meals etc. Room and privacy nice, private sunbeds outside room. No AC as one should expect from an eco-lodge, but a fan that works well. Room is good, Seaview and spacious. Big restroom. Relatively large village within walking distance. It is very interesting to walk through. There is a large large baobab tree with a staircase that leads up into the tree. This is nice, and cost 1 usd i think. Also you can buy cold soda and crisps etc in many of the local kiosks. Came here for Christmas, and I had maybe the best Christmas dinner I've ever had. Special Christmas eve package of 4 courses including lobster, and coffee and a cocktail for under 30 usd. Also great paella with lobster, calamari, octopus and tuna for 30k tsh the next day, also amazing. Very nice vibe and clientele was very nice and polite. Staff great!! They are lovely and I wish I could have gotten to know them by staying longer - maybe another time.

A small charming lodge that is very well maintained, with beautiful villas and rooms built in traditional style, functional, furnished with great taste. I can only recommend the restaurant, delicious and reasonably priced cuisine, flexible meal times and above all, open every day. I would like to emphasise the friendly staff and the personal contact with the owners Annick and Ben, who helped us a lot with their great advice and help with our daily excursions. It's great to see that there are still such affordable, small and above all personal hotels that are also sustainable and environmentally friendly. We will remember this lodge as inspiring and recommend it to others. Congratulations to the whole team.

*A Peaceful Paradise with Purpose* Palmera Zanzibar is a serene oasis just outside a charming village. I loved the peaceful garden, the spotless infinity pool, and the magical ocean views—especially at sunset. The food was creative, delicious, and all homemade (including fresh breads and cakes!). My room was beautifully decorated, with a comfy bed, sea view, and solar-powered AC—much appreciated in the heat! What makes Palmera truly special is its mission: it’s part of the More Than A Drop Hospitality College, training underprivileged girls for careers in hospitality. The staff and students were incredibly kind, attentive, and made me feel safe and welcome. Highly recommended—for both the experience and the amazing cause behind it.

- perfect spot for resting and beautiful scenery - the villa is literally on the beach - you can see the ocean from the bed - you can watch the sunrise from your bed or romantically from the heartshaped pier, swing or beach - it’s very quiet and so you wont see many people except for some locals working during low tide - staff is very friendly, helpful and on point (fast response and solving problems/requests) - the manager is very hospitable, initiates sharing information but also leaves you alone immediately when finished - the manager’s cat is living on the property and she’s super cute and playful - they arrange taxi, massage, yoga classes and tours - you can use the supboards for free - breakfast is very delicious and versatile and almost entirely suitable for vegetarians - restaurants offers outside of menu options for lunch and dinner as requested, even local dishes that are not on the menu - water pressure is very good and hot water - airconditioning and fan works perfectly - complimentary drinks upon arrival and leave

We loved this accommodation. The pool and decorations are very serene making it the perfect location to relax. For the price, it’s absolutely worth it. The room was clean and the whole place maintained daily. Air con worked perfectly too. There’s a restaurant on site if you want to order lunch and dinner. The breakfast was insanely delicious - probably the best breakfast we had that was included with accommodation in our whole Tanzania trip. The staff are amazing - very friendly and hospitable. The location is not as busy - but that’s great for a more relaxing holiday. Less than 5 minute walk to the beach, and there’s another restaurant and shop nearby too. We rented a car and parked it outside the gate which was super convenient also. Thank you for our wonderful stay.

Mtende is located in an area completely immersed in nature.

Mtende is located in an area completely immersed in nature. There's a small village, a few seaside lodges and restaurants, and a beautiful beach that's heavily influenced by the tides, offering a truly unique landscape. It's recommended for those who want to get away from the more touristy areas for a few days.

It's ridiculous to call Mtende a city!

It's ridiculous to call Mtende a city! It's a tiny African village, where locals rarely see tourists except when they drive past. It's perhaps the only place on the entire island of Unguja where you can fully enjoy the African exotica and immerse yourself in a world still unspoiled by the inexorable advance of the modern tourism industry.
