Chester is a charming, very small town about half an hour south of the overdeveloped Rock Hill/South Charlotte area. The countryside between Chester and Rock Hill/South Charlotte is beautiful and makes for a nice relaxing drive or commute. Chester is full of opportunity and the downtown area is ripe for some boutique shops and establishments. We ate at Clacks (SUPER clean and delicious fried catfish and other goodies), Cyclone (diner fare that was fine and very affordable), and The Front Porch (out by the interstate but worth the drive). We did not eat at Gene's Diner downtown, we are saving that for our next trip. Check out the new outfitter store and the thrift store downtown. The historical museum in the old jail is very interesting and they have a surprisingly impressive antique gun collection. We did not get to the antique store downtown, but we'll hit that next time. Chester is the perfect location if you are visiting family in the Charlotte/Rock Hill area and want to put a little bit of countryside between you and them. Stay at the Inn Upon Moon River, you'll be glad you did. :D

We stayed in this town in order to visit the Catawba Native American center the next day (which unfortunately turned out to be closed). We weren't that interested in the town, but in driving out of it we saw a lot of historical houses and wondered about its history. Might have been more to see.
