It is a convenient place for us to stop. We are snow birds and stop one night here every 6 months. There are good places to eat, casino food is good and pizza place across the street is great. Travel Lodge is comfortable, clean and affordable. It is an interesting little town. Take the time to find out about the military facility. Its very interesting.

I won't recommend Hawthorne for a destination but rather a good stop off if you need some rest or you are going boating on Walker lake or have an interest in touring the Hawthorne Ordnance Museum.

The Hawthorne Nevada Travelodge has a friendly, accommodating staff, and are Service Dog friendly, including an astroturf dog area, so you can avoid the sand burrs. Beds are comfortable, the bathroom is large and updated. The police officers are friendly and helpful, even if they're ignorant of federal ADA laws. Hopefully they'll educate themselves on that soon.

Reservation made and not followed through. Asked for ground floor and was placed upstairs twice. Told at the site downstairs would be made available after more rooms were cleaned. Not true. Had to get an upgrade in order to receive ground floor. Rooms first given were dirty and not cleaned. Was told they don't have the staff.

Nevada offers great highway transport north - south. Way better than the I5 or CA 395. High elevation so snow is a risk, but low precipitation so chances are you will be OK. Check the weather websites for you go. Driving is fun, traffic is light. Scenic and relaxing. Hawthorne is a good stopping point with a couple of OK hotels. El Capitan casino offers tremendous value for good food if you don't need great ambience and professional service; servers are well meaning and very nice!

We always stay in Hawthorne when traveling through Nevada. It’s a break in a road trip. Not enough to do to stay more than one day. We eat at the casino because we haven’t found more than a couple of other places to eat.
