Although we were turned away at the Grand Lake Hotel because they were double booked and gave our rooms away ( won’t use booking.com again as they are clearly an unreliable resource), we enjoyed the Renaissance Faire in Lebanon when we traveled back to town the next day after we had to stay at another hotel which cost 3x more and was 45 minutes away. The event was fun. The Grand Lake Motel is a pit though. It was literally boarded up in the front (apparently there was spa there once). My daughter said, “ This looks like a murder site”. What remains is a poorly run dive. No staff on when we arrived. We had to call someone to come and let us in and then wait in the rain for over 10 minutes before he arrived. And, for the record, I tried to call twice in the week leading up to our stay to confirm our reservations but no answer. I left a message but no return call. We didn’t get to stay in Lebanon, but stayed 45 minutes away in East Lyme at the Sleep Inn. The rooms were clean and nice and the woman working at the desk gave me a 10% discount on our rooms. Very kind. We ate at The Shack, a great diner type place. The staff was friendly and the service was great. The food was delicious, especially the onion rings and banana cream pie!
