This is, without exaggeration, the best hotel staff I’ve ever encountered. When we got stuck in Yosemite because the road was closed, we had to look for another place last minute. Since I had booked a non-refundable option, I honestly didn’t expect to get my money back or be able to change the dates without extra charges. But the team went above and beyond — and my friends and I couldn’t be more grateful. The view from the terrace was incredible, the room was clean and spacious, and the staff truly did everything they could to help us. I only regret that we were so stressed and busy that we didn’t even take a single photo. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be in that area again, but I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone passing through.

The motel was very homey and comfortable. The bed was comfortable, the towels were fluffy, there were flannel sheets on the bed, and an interesting coffee-making system that brewed strong coffee. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Lone Pine is a small town that's close to the Manzanar Historic Site and the Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery. You can also stop at the Cottonwood Kilns on your way in. It's got some good restaurants and shops and people are friendly. Seasons, The Merry Go-Round, and Alabama Hills Cafe are good places to eat and there are a couple of saloons in town as well, if that's your thing. Some beautiful views of the Eastern Sierras, too... About a 4-hour drive from L.A. it's a nice place to visit and there are probably opportunities for hiking in the local mountains.

There's a McDonald's which is always good for feeding children at a reasonable price. There's a good Mexican restaurant in town with a very friendly waitress. The motion picture museum is well done. The Alabama hills are very interesting along with Mt Whitney.

The museum of Western film history and surrounding Alabama...

The museum of Western film history and surrounding Alabama Hills are fantastic - you can just imagine the Hollywood scenes being filmed. We drove up Mt. Whitney for a short hike; our Dow Villa motel had the best pool and lovely rooms, historical photos in the lobby. We ate across the street at the Alabama Hills café and liked that, too. Our L. A. cousins had driven past the museum enroute to Mammoth hundreds of times and have said they will definitely stop there on their next trip.

Lone Pine is a great little town and base for exploring the greater Owens Valley. From here you can drive up to the Mt Whitney Portal and in about 25 mins, you are at over 9,000 feet elevation surrounded by forest trees and a beautiful waterfall. The Alabama Hills are also well worth exploring with its' strange and wonderful terrain. There is also an old cinema that now houses a movie museum since so many old westerns were filmed nearby. The museum is a must! Even that cult classic "Tremors" was filmed nearby. And you cannot visit without stopping by Manzanar, a WWII Japanese-American concentration camp. Very sobering yet inspiring the resilience of the people who were incarcerated there without due process. Independence is nearby and another town worth visiting.

I stayed in the main "historic" part of the hotel. It's what you would expect from a old building, squeaky floors, etc., but it's kept up well. They even use real keys. Location is great, right in the middle of town. Staff was very friendly. There's coffee by the front desk.

the hotel itself is nice (historic building?) but the motel rooms are in newer poorly built building (typical motel style). the toilet flush didn't work (kept running, we had to turn of the water main). otherwise, comfy and clean.

Practical location. Lone Pine town is a good night stop. Hotel itself a bit noisy, could hear the toilet flushing next door. Breakfast was terribly poor so didn’t have any which made it stay poor value.

I came off the trail 2 days early and they were able to accommodate me. Happy with my stay. One unusual plus was that there was loads of space on the surface by the sink. Liked Lone Pine.
