This is a hidden gem on the Oregon coast. The staff are all considerate, kind, caring, knowledgable & are committed to meeting the needs of all of their guests. This was just a short trip for me…and it was just what I needed (except it was way too short). I’ve been through some very serious health problems this year & I really missed being able to spend time at the Silver Sands. I want to travel & stay there more often…whenever I’m able. This is definitely a clean, cozy & precious motel & I always feel very blessed to be able to enjoy it. I absolutely love it there!

The rooms are spacious and very comfortable with all the amenities that we like: minibar and coffee maker. Staff was very helpful with the laundry which we needed to wash. The breakfast also offered fresh fruits, which for us are very important.

The Wheeler on the Bay Lodge is a surprisingly perfect location. I was expecting a motel and got a small resort, quiet, serene, beautifully located next to the marina. The rooms are big compared to what you normally get at a motel, very clean (as in VERY), well equipped with functioning appliances. My room had a small deck in the back which was a really nice place to just rest a bit and take in the scenery. They have a dock and you can apparently rent canoes to move around the Nehalem River (which I didn't do), get on a boat for some fishing and while I was having my coffee early in the morning I could see some lucky anglers pull sizeable fish from the river. Bonus points: there is an excellent restaurant right next door, the Salmonberry. Great food you probably wouldn't expect in a place like Wheeler with "al fresco" right on the banks of the Nehalem. Spectacular.

Great variety of restaurants and cafes. Good art galleries. There was a village fair on Thursday night. It is a weekly fair with vendors for every thing from books to donuts! A good singer sang oldies but goodies almost nonstop! Rock away beach is in about the center of the northern coast in Oregon so it is easy to visit other interesting places.

Rockaway Beach has both a small town vibe with homey,...

Rockaway Beach has both a small town vibe with homey, independent restaurants and stores, and some condo/commercial rental properties, but isn't overly touristy. There are nearby places to hike in addition to the beach. The railroad ride gives you a bit of local history.

Rockaway Beach used to be a great place to go on the Oregon coast - not so much anymore. It's gotten so crowded, and just wasn't as enjoyable as in the past. No very good place to eat in Rockaway. Preferred Nehalem..

Rockaway Beach is one of my favorite Oregon beaches.

Rockaway Beach is one of my favorite Oregon beaches. The Twin Rocks is a must-see attraction. I love walking on the beach, listening to the waves crashing, and watching the seagulls and other birds. Locals and some visitors walk their dogs on the beach. It is a relaxing beach that is not too crowded. Sunsets during the Spring and Summer can be phenomenal. There are lots of places to eat in the area and fun things to do. We love taking the train rides. One goes to South to Garibaldi, and one goes North to Wheeler.

We go here once or twice a year, regardless of the weather.

We go here once or twice a year, regardless of the weather. Always enjoy being here, walking the beach and watching the waves. An obligatory side trip to Tillamook cheese to pick up some bags of curds. And at least one breakfast at Grumpy's.

We loved Rockaway.

We loved Rockaway. Quiet, uncrowded, great beach for walking. Not a "beachcombing beach" but lovely. Sweet little town with 2 small grocery stores that open early and close late...which helped our large family stay in groceries and a few things we forgot! Some great local cafes! The view from The Sand Dollar can't be beat ~ great food. Also a few interesting and unique gift and food shops. It was a relief not to have the typical touristy commercial "beach strip." Just South of town is the Boardwalk through a gorgeous old growth Western Cedar forest. Beautiful level walk for families, kids, elderly & dogs, with lush forest light, river, and those giant trunks surrounding us.

It's very quiet at this hotel. We love to be able to see the ocean so close to the building, it was clean and we absolutely love the shower head and all of the complimentary soaps and shampoos!! And big white fluffy towels!!

The location was wonderful. The room was very big with two queen size beds. The kitchen was fully equipped with all the necessary tools. The nearest supermarket is 100 yards from the hotel.
