I will tell anyone coming to Sri Lanka - stay with Ravi at Margosa Mountain Villa. Best stay on our trip and top 5 lifetime. Stunning setting. Perfect room. Delicious food -organic rice, fruit, fish etc. right from the property, expertly cooked by Ravi’s wife Sewwandi. Pool is sublime. Birds galore (and easy to find and ID with Ravi’s help). Booked for two days. Stayed for 4. Great spot for excursions Dambulla, Sigiriya, and beyond, but we were happy just to relax and meditate on our good fortune to be there. Ravi spent 23 years as tour guide and it shows both in his care and expertise. I know this review sounds like a plug from one of his friends but I promise that 5 days ago we’d never met. But, yes, we have definitely made a new friend. Stay as long as you can.

We had an amazing 11 days stay here :) Spacious, clean, sunny, great breakfast and great value for money, big kitchen, beautiful garden, and amazing hosts! Super helpful and communicative. We didn’t feel like guests or tourists in the town, we felt as if this was our home, it was nice for us to be in a neighborhood with locals as well, so it was perfect for a long terms stay. The bedroom was very comfortable, there was AC but we switched mostly to using the ceiling fans because they were so strong and effective :) It’s Close to the train station (we had a perfect day trip to Galle and we took the train) and also close to bus stops. There is a quiet beach just a few minutes away, feels like our own private beach, we didn’t see other tourists there, there’s a relaxed restaurant too for any meal or drink you may want. although the waves seemed strong so we didn’t go in the water. Very short Tuktuk ride to Weligama, also close to mirissa, and we also enjoyed riding to madiha as well. The breakfasts were so good! Best value for money, perfect mix of super authentic Sri Lankan food and western staples (there were always eggs). we loved the fun cakes!! And enjoyed trying the foods we didn’t see at restaurants. We were super lucky we were the only guests there, so we had a perfect stay. The villa is a really good option for a group, or a family, because the kitchen and couch and balcony are technically common-shared with the other guests. Also a good choice if you are renting a Tuktuk or motorcycle because you will have the driveway or front yard to park it.

The staff is extremely kind, they look out for your comfort far and beyond. The garden and pool area are very well taken care of and the food at the restaurant is delicious.

I’ve been in Sri Lanka for 4 weeks and stayed at more than a dozen places. This one I will never forget. When I first saw the ad, I thought it looked too good to be true. But since there was a special price for the opening, I thought I’d give it a try. I could not be happier with the choice. I've had an unforgettable experience. This place is absolutely fantastic! To help future guests, I will try to provide as much detail as I can in BOTH columns: The cottage only opened in February 2024, so everything is brand new. Unlike in other places, you actually get what you see in the pictures. Everything about this place is very well thought-through and built in a way such as to allow for a most pleasant stay: The cottage is located very quietly in the middle of nature but still close enough to town (5 min by tuktuk). It has an outdoor terrace with two regular and one swing chair offering a lovely view over the garden. The bedroom is beautifully designed and very spacious. The wardrobe and dresser offer plenty of space to store luggage openly and easily accessible. The beds are very comfortable and the mattrasses have standard European/US length (I mention this because sometimes in Sri Lanka, the mattrasses are shorter so that your feet stick out at the end). The A/C is very powerful and there are no smells (which sometimes happens with older models). It cools down the entire room very evenly. There are multiple electrical outlets which all types of sockets (even USB slots). There are light switches for every single lamp which allows you to set the lighting in just the way you prefer. Worth mentioning here too is the warm temperature of the light. The WiFi is reliable and sufficiently strong for browsing, streaming, and video calls.

This property was exactly what was needed after a long haul flight. A peaceful sanctuary with a team who went over and beyond to ensure our comfort. The setting is just beautiful and is the perfect ambience to adjust and reset. The pool was the perfect temperature too. The Spice Garden is beautiful and make sure to do the complimentary your with the guide (who is a fountain of knowledge). We learnt so much and he was brilliant with our four year old. Seeing her excited over plants and spices was so special! Food was delicious and they accommodated our needs very well including a gluten free diet. The staff went over and beyond to accommodate us, even setting up dinner on our terrace at the last minute when our daughter had fallen asleep just before we weee due to go to the restaurant. I couldn’t recommend this place more for its warm hospitality and beautiful setting.

I would like to thank our host Franzi, Kiki and the rest of the team for treating us with the upmost respect and kindness. The wonderful staff was very attentive and made everyone feel at home at all times. Everything has been taken care of from the day we arrived to when we left. Breakfast was fantastic with a lot of varieties. Everything was freshly made with passion and love. Franzi would occasionally give us a ride with the tuktuk when going out, or in need of a quick transport. Her driving skills are simply unmatched and deserves mentioning. The days felt nice and long as the property offers a safe space to retreat from the busy, chaotic roads further south, making you enjoy every second at the property more. Stunning views from all corners into the vast ocean with unforgettable sunsets leave you speechless. Our trip through SriLanka was rapidly transformed from an adventurous busy holiday to a perfect relaxing safe space with direct access to the beach. Leaving this place makes me extremely sad but I am hoping to return soon again to spend some more quality time with the wonderful people I’ve met here, and can call friends. They have made our stay unforgettable. Much love xoxo

Amazing, the hosts were so lovely! The property is clean and inviting, the breakfast was superb! One of our favourite stays in Sri Lanka! They have a local tuk tuk driver that you can call from reception, the property is in walking distance to the town.

We stayed at Royal Lion Hotel during our trip to Kandy and had a great experience! The rooms were spacious and clean—just wow! The breakfast was absolutely delicious and gave us a perfect start to the day. The staff were very nice, friendly, and always ready to help. It's also just a short drive to Kandy, making it a convenient stop. Highly recommend this place for a comfortable and enjoyable stay
