Our rooms are designed with traditional Japanese aesthetics, featuring tatami mat flooring throughout. For those who prefer a futon on tatami or a bed, we also offer Japanese-Western style rooms. The warm ambiance is further enhanced by local artists' paintings adorning the walls. From you enter the reception you are met with a beautiful traditional Japanese interier, it is very well done. Everyone there were very polite and respectful, from staff to other guests. We three women arrived around 16, were able to select a cute yukata each we wore as much as possible for our one night stay, and were shown our room which were as big as a small apartment. We choose to go directly to the onsen which had just opened for the afternoon and had the place for ourselves. Very well stocked with brushes, hairties, lotions, everything free to use! the rooms were nice and comfortable, there was a beautiful tea set for us to use so we had a tea party in our yukatas, before dinner. We had paid for the dinner which was serving after serving of small dishes and a particularly tasty hida beef with miso dish. The beds and shower were great, nothing to complain about there, we had the traditional breakfast the day after with a self serve bar of drinks such as tea, coffee, juice and milk. Oh and we also went down to the onsen before breakfast and were once again alone to relax and take our time. It was probably the most expensive stay we have included on our trip but it was also by far the best experience we have had, and can recommend anyone to try it even just for a night like us, if not more ☺️

The hosts treated us with great care and kept on checking on us to ensure nothing was missing - they brought us tea during the day and prepared a delicious breakfast. This was one of those gems hard to find due to the authenticity of the place. thank you so much for for keeping our heart warm, we will remember Takayama in a special way!!

Authentic Japanese set meals are served for breakfast and dinner. Staffs are so sweet and so kind. I thought they would provide 5 star service, but instead we received 50,000 star service! My wife and I just couldn’t show enough appreciation to the world-class service the crew had given. Best experience ever!

Just 40 metres from restored Edo-era post town Magome-Juku, Chaya Hotel has simple traditional rooms with futon bedding and a tatami-mat floor. It has a hot public bath, and Japanese meals are available for a fee. Great location, wonderful staff, best experience in a shared dormitory, as it felt very private with the separating curtains. It was also very quiet and all guests considerate.

Hida Takayama Hodakaso Yamano Iori is just a 3-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station and a 10-minute walk from Old Town and Takayama Jinya and Miyagawa Morning Market. The hotel is located in the center of Takayama city, and there are many restaurants around. The Japanese-style accommodation offers spacious public baths. No meals are provided, but bread and soup are provided as light meals in the room. Free parking is provided on site. Facilities - A beautiful old building, the outside is charming and has a picturesque entrance. The layout is convenient and it is clean and well maintained. Rooms - the room we stayed in had a tatami floors but western style beds raised off the floor (only by a few centimetres). It had a small tv which only had local tv on it. The room is beautiful, with paper window shutters and sliding paper doors. There was a toilet inside and a basin in the entrance. Bath - the highlight. The bath is clean, and is perfect to come back to after a day of sightseeing. Staff - didn’t have much interaction, but the receptionists were extremely polite, as is standard for hotels in Japan, and the older gentlemen who showed us to the rooms was extremely helpful and polite. He brought our suitcases up in the service lift so we didn’t have to lug them up the stairs. Location - perfect, barely a 5 minute walk from the station, and another 5 minutes to the historic streets. Plenty of restaurants and shopping around.

JR Takayama Station is located a 3-minute walk away. The hotel was excellent with very good service, breakfast and cozy rooms which didn't feel small. The beds were very comfortable. The highlight was the fantastic private onsens. And even free ice cream post that was truly the icing on the cake Highly recommended for anyone staying at Takayama
