This is a fantastic hotel; location, service, amenities, and the room were all excellent.
The people at the front desk were friendly and very helpful, this applied to literally 5-6 people I had interacted with. The service was great, even after electing not to have our room made up, we came back to fresh waters and towels by the door.
The room was spacious and very clean. We had the traditional Japanese room, two double beds with a tatami area, for a family of 4, two kids 11 and 14, there were plenty of space for us. Futons were available for the tatami area which was perfect the kids, and the beds were much softer than the typical hotels in Japan. Separate shower and toilet room, both with sinks, was also very convenient.
There’s also a library next to a lounge area with a cozy fireplace and cushy leather chairs and free espresso and drinks. I was able to get some work done without being disturbed as it was very quiet.
The hotel is about a 7-8 min leisure walk from the Kariuzawa station, super quiet neighborhood, though it may be because the ski season had virtually ended. It took around 10-15 min walk from the hotel to the outlet shopping area in the south side of the station, which had all of the restaurants. The location was superb, easy to find places to eat and get to the ski resort, a 10 min free bus ride from the outlet area.

Interior design, lobby with hot drinks, availability of (electric) bikes to hire
Amazing hotel with the nicest staff. Outstanding architecture and interior design with lots of attention to detail. Great food and snacks.
This was one of the most nicely designed places we’ve stayed in during our Japan trip. The rooms are beautifully set out, nicely decorated and extremely spacious. The hotel provides nice breakfasts every morning, they have onsite onsens, free laundry services and gondola shuttle services. The staff were all very lovely, and all spoke exceptional English. In terms of facilities and additional services, Yasushi goes above and beyond.
Lovely decor and design. I felt like I was in my dream home. Also, there only 3 rooms and people tend to have dinner communally so it’s really cosy
The room design was smart, efficient and just lovely. The staff were very helpful and the overall atmosphere at the hotel was pleasant. The welcome drink and complimentary ramen (though not the best I've ever had) were a nice touch
Fantastic boutique hotel in Karuizawa. Free parking. Family room was so big - we loved the size, the decoration, the cleanliness. The family rooms have DVD players. There are also record players you can take to the room - this was a great experience for our kids, who had never seen records before. Just a short drive away is a bunch of lovely restaurants/shops and a fancy onsen. This hotel is obviously a labour of love.
Beautiful interior design. Ski in, ski out. Good ski equipment room. Nice cafe with nice espresso coffee and great view of piste. Lovely view from bedroom. Super comfortable bed. Friendly & helpful Staff.
Cosy and uniquely decorated ski lodge run by an international staff of young backpackers. It was nice to be able to have conversations with staff and other travellers in a relaxed atmosphere. Good lounge and breakfast bar and loved the funky eclectic interior design of both!
Loved it here and would happily stay again. The hospitality and service were excellent. Our room was a great size with a gorgeous view. The Onsen beautiful with an outside open air bath as well inside baths and sauna. Its true some of the furnishings and wall paper and not the most current interior designs, but I loved this and the fun retro vibe it adds to the homieness. This place has the comforts of a big hotel but with the warmth of a family run business.
