We stayed at the hostel for two nights. There were three of us traveling together, and we stayed in mixed rooms. The whole hostel is clean and tidy. We didn't use the kitchen. The bathroom is small, and there is only one in the whole hostel, but there is an onsen next to the hostel, which we have access to as guests. The recommendations on where to eat at different times of the day were very useful.

This will be the easiest review I'll ever write as the experience was truly flawless and made so memorable by the team there. The staff were incredibly thoughtful; once they found out it was my husband's birthday, they not only gave us the option to upgrade our room at no extra expense, but they placed flowers and a handwritten card in the living room, gave us a birthday cake after dinner and offered us a complimentary drink of our choice. We felt so showered with love, they really went above and beyond! The hotel manager very kindly picked us up from the train station, and we could communicate through Google Translate during the short ride. They also had staff that spoke mandarin which was helpful.
The room was spacious with modern touches and had a stunning garden view. The private onsen made the stay relaxing and came with high-end toiletries. Plus, the fridge was filled with different complimentary drinks like beer, tea and soda. We were happy to be provided with all the traditional loungewear that could be worn to the restaurant after a good day of soaking - plus the little guide which teaches you how to tie it properly. As someone who loves to sleep in total darkness, I really appreciated that the room had great blackout curtains and none of those annoying little flashing lights from the smoke detector, TV or aircon.
The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were by far the best food we had during our entire trip (including previous trips to Japan!) Not only was every dish meticulously plated, but every bite was heavenly; it could have been Michelin-star dining. We were more than satisfied with the portions; they even wrapped some leftovers into rice balls for us to enjoy later.
Last but not least, I must commend the staff because we also left our disposable camera upon departure, and they kindly shipped it to our next hotel at no extra fee. This level of customer service is unmatched and made our stay worth every penny.

Stunning ryokan with beautiful onsen. The kaiseki meal was spectacular although as we were a family group, they served us in a dining hall of sorts, which had bright lighting and little atmosphere. Definitely would have been nicer to dine in our beautiful rooms. A beautiful ryokan all round. We reserved the private family onsen as our kids were laggy about bathing with strangers, and it worked perfectly.

Such a unique place. Enjoyed finally having some comfy couches to relax in! Very well fitted out with absolutely everything you could need. Centrally located to all the sights. This would be a great place for a group of people as there is so much seating and even two kitchens. Highly recommend.
