Impeccable service, great food, and an unforgettable experience. Selected the halfboard option with the private outdoor bath and it was perfect.

Arima Onsen is close to Kobe, but has a nice countryside feel about it. Our room was much larger than expected, the staff were attentive and friendly, and the onsen was very good, with the famous Arima golden water (salty and with high iron content). A nice detail in the onsen was that the gender seperating wall was lower at the end, enabling a conversation with my wife. The food was also very good, we stayed 2 nights and had 1 night dinner and breakfast in our room (for an extra charge). The ryokan also offers a free shuttle to the Arima Ropeway and to the railway station. The salon was also nice with free coffee and lots of books and a high-end tube amplifier. The building is wooden and old, so expect to hear some noise from your neighbours, but nothing too bad.

We spent a wonderful 2 nights at this enchanting hotel to celebrate our 5-year anniversary. From the room to the food, the building and the Onsen, it was a celebration for all the senses. The food was exceptional - from dinner to breakfast, the dishes were prepared with the freshest ingredients, all sourced locally.
What made the stay truly special was the staff, who went above and beyond to make our experience memorable.

Excellent experience in this hotel! Although not located in the town center, the hotel offers an excellent shuttle bus service. What we like most are the hotel's private hot springs. All four outdoor and four indoor hot springs are available by private reservation. Each section is in 45mins for one room. And it is easy to make the reservation

Large property with lots of onsen options. Located in a convenient location. Some staff spoke enough English to help me navigate the property. Instructions for onsen was also provided in English. Hotel was also able to supply stickers to cover tattoos.

Surugatei has a very central location, and a very comfortable room with a separate bathroom and shower. The public onsens are close-by. It was easy to check in at a local hotel, and you use passwords to get into the room. Highly recommended!
