The location was amazing. Imagine my surprise we I found out I was directly across from the Kennan-Ji temple. It is obvious if you look at the maps app but I did not. All temples and the Gion district are a very short walk away.

I stayed at this wonderful ryokan during my trip to Kyoto, and I’m still deeply impressed! This is a truly authentic Edo-period style ryokan, with a serene and cozy atmosphere that beautifully preserves Japanese tradition. Everything—from the interiors to the hot baths—radiates a deep respect for cultural heritage.
I want to especially thank the staff. I accidentally left a valuable piece of jewelry in the bath and had nearly accepted that it was lost. But the staff not only found it—they contacted me and kindly mailed it to my hotel in Tokyo. I was genuinely touched by their honesty, care, and attention.
This place became more than just accommodation—it became a special memory of my journey in Japan. I will definitely return and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a truly Japanese experience and heartfelt hospitality. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

EVERYTHING, the lobby, the restaurant which served 10/10 breakfast and kept that standard with their lunch and dinner offerings. The bakery on the lobby is also a lovely feature. The coffee corner also served some of the most aromatic coffee I've ever had. The Japanese really take pride in everything they do. There's also a phenomenal Rooftop bar to sit have some small plates and a cocktail. We will be back 100000%

The owner is very approachable, he goes the extra mile of asking how we are and offering a space for our luggage in case we would want to leave it if we need to travel around the area. Breakfast is available free of charge -toasts, cherry tomatoes and spreads. Coffee and tea is always available as well. Japanese breakfast is offered for an extra charge but we did not avail it. Room amenities were complete as well, there even is an extension available.

A small, lovely hotel in the Gion district of Kyoto. Although our room overlooked a busy road (and the river), the multi-pane windows ensured that our room was quiet. Staff were very kind and helpful. Breakfast was excellent.

Fantastic 3-night stay in Gion, the best hotel we’ve stayed at on our trip to Japan. Rooms are spacious, clean, modern, and the hotel has everything you need (laundry and ice machine, and any extra amenities on ground floor). Staff are very friendly and helpful with any questions you may have, and allowed us to keep our bags at the hotel before check-in and also for a few hours after check out.
The location is perfect to explore central Kyoto and only a 10-min walk to the Chion-in Temple and Maruyama Park.
