Everything was great, very comfortable futons, sound of the river was calming in absolute silence of the town.
P.S. Water pressure in the shower surprised me, the strongest water pressure I've experienced in my life.)

We had a fabulous two night stay at this brilliant ryokan. The room was large and spacious, in traditional Japanese style. We had dinner in the ryokan both nights and both meals were superb - some of the best experiences we had in Japan. Delicious food, beautifully presented in the lovely dining room and served by the amazing lady who works there (sorry, didn't find out her name). It's located in the lovely little town of Yudanaka and is an easy 15 minute walk from the railway station. Honestly, our stay here was probably the best in our 2 weeks in Japan - a fantastic experience !

Excellent hotel with onsen.
The open air onsen is the best one.
Nice welcoming hosts.
Quite neighborhood.
Super close to train station and bus station, and convenience store.
When checking out, I noticed that there a lot of souvenirs from guests from different countries, so bring one from your country when visiting :)
If you want to visit snow monkey park, best time is in winter, otherwise the chances of seeing the monkey are low (we saw only one in late October)

This was our first stay at a ryokan. Our hosts were very pleasant and attentive. We couldn't have asked for a kinder welcome. Our host came to the train station to pick us up, showed us around and provided us with lots of information about things to do around Shibu Onsen. His recommendation of Enza Cafe and its food was excellent. We were also able to borrow ice cleats for our walk to the snow monkey park.
Our hostess delivered a traditional homemade Japanese breakfast to our room in the morning. The meal was presented beautifully in a lacquer box and it was delicious and healthy.

The hosts were so warm and welcoming. We were driven to the Snow Monkey Park. We received maps and information about other areas to visit, such as Obuse. This was our first experience staying at a Ryokan, and we slept really well on the floor mats, which turned out to be quite comfortable. I recommend staying at Shimaya.

I enjoyed my time at Warabino very much. It's slightly difficult to access, but worth it. The room was very comfortable and the view from the window very pleasing. Onsens were also very relaxing, and the dinner and breakfast was top notch. I would definitely recommend staying here.
