The location and surrounds were very relaxing. Our room was spotless and comfortable. Our dinner meal was so delicious. I must commend the young girl who not only kept tables on a busy night, but also the bar and reception all with a smile on her face. I am sorry I didn't get her name.

The location was great as the occasion was a 60th wedding anniversary afternoon tea at a near by village hall, plus the weather was on our side too, the hotel was lovely, clean and cosy, felt like home.

Very friendly staff. We had lunch and then stayed a night. Good food and beer. The rooms we used were delightful, very comfortable with spacious bathrooms. It was live music night the evening we were there which was an added bonus , with a great band.

Everything.... Nothing was too much trouble for the extremely helpful staff.., from the lady (sorry I've forgotten your name..) who constantly apologized to my wife for placing her in an upstairs room and assisted her down the stairs too... (my wife is having walking difficulties at the moment...) ..to the bar staff and restaurant manager too... Also to the person who found the little favourite penknife that was mislaid.. Our rooms (two coaching rooms) were amazing..!! Bed lovely, bedding exquisite, TV...huge!.., shower amazing and towels sumptuously fluffy..!! [**Please tell me the brands of toiletries in those rooms because they were divine...**] Yes..., the breakfast.., just perfect..! We even had a second visit..!! One of the best if not the best hotel I've had the opportunity to stay in.....! Thank you all very much.....

I have been coming to Strattons for many years, and while the restaurant and courtyard cafe have closed for want of staff it still is a great experience for those who want a comfortable base to explore the surrounding area. It does seems as if the present owners since 1990 will be selling up so go while it is still in their hands.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Riverbank Guest House. It was located at the end of a beautiful bridge. There were two very old churches across the river, our room overlooked both churches, the bridge and the river. There were many flowers and the lilacs were in full bloom, the fragrance was overpowering… lilacs are one of my favorite fragrances. The fee was modest and included a continental breakfast in a very nice dining room. For a small fee Victoria would make prepare a cooked, hot, full English breakfast. The outside of the building is stone and the building is older like the rest of the town: but, the interior of the building was very modern, new, clean and well maintained. We visited the ruins of the nunnery and the church across the river. The church across the river (St. Germans Parish Church) is still in use and is quite beautiful inside. The pews had intricate carvings of the seven deadly sins and at one time had a doomsday painting over the altar which has been long since painted over. We met the local priest who rang the bell for morning prayers. If you are visiting north of London, this is a very central location to see many castles and other interesting sites from. We visited the Yorkshire Dales and Pinnines from here as well as sights to the south and east. There was more to see than we had days to see them.
