I had the pleasure of spending 3 nights at Ikkoten with my three children, and our stay was nothing short of perfection. We were originally going to stay as a family of 5 at the KAI Yufuin but when an important business trip took my husband out of the vacation we had to quickly pivot because my ten year old son wouldn’t have been able to use the hot springs alone there. The reservable family onsen as well as our private indoor/outdoor onsen (we stayed in Kyara) allowed him to have as wonderful an experience as the girls and I. While the family onsen is great, we loved the convenience and privacy of our private one so much that we ended up using the family onsen only once. Notably, this is not a part of Japan where there’s a ton of English spoken, but the staff at Ikkoten had excellent English, which was super helpful for us as American visitors. They were super accommodating of the kids and provided samue (pajamas that are also worn to meals), geta (wooden sandals), and slippers in multiple sizes. The grounds are beautiful - a back drop of tall seeene forest (you can always here the serene sound of wind rushing through the leaves and pine needles), mountains at Mt Yufu on the other sides, and then a beautiful manicured garden. Our late March stay marked the beginnings of all kinds of blooms, and just standing outside you’d catch the perfumed scent of all kinds of beautiful flowers. The meals were absolutely incredible. The kids got wonderful multi-course meals of rice and tempura and miso soup (with a little bit of new and interesting dishes to try too). My 12 year old daughter was considered an adult by the resort, but when I requested kids meals for her, they were happy to pivot after 24 hours (the kaiseki meals were just too much for her 40kg frame!!). But those kaiseki meals were truly scrumptious. When booking the property for multiple nights, I hadn’t realized how overwhelming they could be, and I swear I gained like 10lbs just in those 3 days alone!!

SEKIYA RESORT Terrace Midoubaru is located a 15-minute drive from JR Beppu Station and boasts guestrooms with a semi open-air bath. Guests can soak in the hot spring bath. The property had everything we needed but was still close enough to a convenience store, restaurants and other attractions.

The owner and staff are very friendly and patient. The property is beautiful and provided great meals. The owner here is so kind, she walked us to our car when we were leaving and thanked us for coming. I am so happy to have met such wonderful people in Japan. I am grateful for the excellent service I received.

Yufuin-Sanso Waremokou offers large Japanese-style rooms boasting an open-air cypress hot spring bath, sweeping nature and city views and a massage chair. Superb room, excellent food and kind service. It was truly healing.

Το 別府 鉄輪温泉 萬力屋別館 ManrikiyaBekkan Beppu Kannawa παρέχει δωμάτια με κλιματισμό και κοινόχρηστο μπάνιο σε Beppu, σε απόσταση 26 χλμ και 5,4 χλμ από τα σημεία ενδιαφέροντος Oita Bank Dome και Σταθμός... The lady owner was just so nice. I felt welcomed right away. I also appreciated the kinds words with the breakfast. The room was also very nice, with a futon and tatami, and you also get to have a reserved time to access the Onsen. Location is also very good. Walkable distance to most of the Beppu hells and the two remaining ones can be reached by bus. Bus stations are nearby, whether you want to go the further hells, Beppu station or Fukuoka.

The home is beautiful, location perfect, you have a designated parking space for your car rental. In this region car rental is highly recommended to explore. The host met us in person. The house is beautiful and calming. Loved having 2 bathrooms. Of all our stays in Japan, this part of the trip was favorite.

I liked most of the accommodation, but the view was the best of all. I will never forget the feeling of being in the hot springs and watching the sun rise over the mountains.
