Even though Nuevo Sol is in the heart of the town with several restaurants within a hundred meters, the property behind its' walls is quiet and lush, surprisingly so. There's a beautiful yard with plenty of places to sit and soak up the beauty and tranquility. The owners are wonderful and easy to get along with. There's also a kitchen.

The owners are very nice and helpful. I had a pleasant nice time there 🙂 The room was big, the bed was comfortable, and there was a nice big shower with hot water. Beautiful view of the lake and of the mountains from the window and balcony 🙂

The hosts are great. The rooms are nice, colorful and luminous with big windows and very clean. The bathroom was a little small and the water heating is barely enough but in general loved the experience of staying there. We got extra blankets upon request and they had a laundry service.

The host, named Elder (hopefully I spell it correctly), is an incredibly nice guy. He speaks Spanish as well as English and is very keen on giving advise about what to do in San Juan. He also offers tours, like seeing the sunrise at the Indian Nose viewpoint. We were the first ones on top and the last ones who went down there. He also took us to a beautiful rock on which you can climb after the Indian Nose viewpoint, which other guides don't do. We had breakfast together at a local restaurant with very good prices (you can't find these places without the help of a local). We had good conversations and laughed a lot. In my experience booking at a local homestay is way better than booking at a hotel/hostel that's ran by foreigners. We elongated our stay with one night, because we liked it so much there.

Even it is not the cheapest place you can get, you most definitely get more than you are expecting. The bathroom was the biggest surprise. It comes with a free standing tub from where you have a really nice view over the lake and the volcano on the opposite lake side!

The owner was so friendly and made you feel extra welcome. We had just finished our 3 day hike from Xela and you could tell he was even trying to make sure the room was ready asap for us. He even prints out a little sign welcoming you which is such a nice touch. The terrace is lovely and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The location is just a short walk out of town and has a more local feel.
