Even before I arrived the host messaged me and helped me get the bus from Anuradhapura, then arranged a tuktuk when I missed the stop. A tasty dinner was provided even though the restaurant was closed due to Poya Day. Advice about safaris, then safari was booked at short notice. A packed breakfast was provided for the early start. I was planning on taking a train onwards to Mannar, but he called and checked and found out it was cancelled, then helped me with bus arrangements, and flagging it down. This place was a great base for Wilpattu safaris, affordable, clean, and a friendly family. And a beautiful sunset!

Wonderful stay with Gihan and Dinu! We stayed twice for a total of 7 nights. A wonderful, authentic experience in Sri Lanka. They are extremely kind and welcoming. They speak English very well, and we were able to take the time to ask questions and discuss many topics such as culture, sports, politics, food, customs, etc. This allowed us to better understand this country. They truly care about their guests, making sure we have everything we need and giving great tips for visiting the city and its surroundings. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner if needed (we recommend trying it at least once because it's delicious). We did the cooking program, which involves buying ingredients at the market and then cooking together. It was great to see all the flavors they add to the dishes we enjoyed afterwards. They know a contact for a safari in Wilpattu National Park and can help organize it. Regarding the accommodation, it's located on a very quiet alley. There's a kitchen available and a pleasant terrace overlooking the small garden. The rooms are well-equipped and pleasant. We recommend a stay here for a wonderful human experience. Το MONI FARM HOUSE WILPATTU διαθέτει κλιματιζόμενα καταλύματα στον προορισμό Nochchiyagama. New Homestay with comfortable big rooms. Very nice shower, better than what I have at home. Silent airconditioning. Not cheap but worth the price because of the quality of the rooms. Extra will be breakfast 1200,diner 1500, softdrinks 300-500. Food good though. Contact with the manager only by phone, that's a pity, contact with the local family who takes care of the accommodation and food is very good, though little English.

Το Wilpattu Mookalan Resort προσφέρει καταλύματα με δωρεάν ποδήλατα, κήπο και δωρεάν WiFi. Great location. Nicely tucked away from the road amongst the forest. Lots of birds including jungle fowl to watch from the patio. Walk in from the road via a pathway. They met us to help carry our bags. Dinner was traditional Sri Lankan curry - vegetarian or chicken. Followed by yoghurt and fruit for dessert. Plenty of food, not spicy and was yummy. Other options for dinner were fried rice or vegetable noodles. Breakfast was packed for us for the following day safari. 2 egg sandwiches, a banana, yoghurt and water. Sufficient for the half day. The best part is the very close lake and dirt road. We went for a walk with binoculars and saw deer, langurs, crocodile, hornbills and lots of other birds and lizards too. A much better, slower paced experience and one not to miss. We booked a half day tour with the host. In hindsight we would have booked a different tour. Pillows weren't overly comfortable but was OK for 1 night.

Kalhara is the perfect host , highly attentive and thoughtful about every small detail. The rooms are spacious, with a minimal aesthetic, well maintained and super clean. Every meal was a lovely home cooked spread, accommodating certain dietary restrictions . One of the best stay experiences I had during my two week trip in Srilanka.

What a place! We had the best time at Visu Villa. If you would like the planning hassle taken out of your trip for a few days, hand yourselves over to Ruwan and the team at Visu Villa. We stayed for three nights at this lovely family run oasis tucked away about a km out of Habarana. Ruwan and his sister Kawshalya made us feel so welcome and Ruwan seamlessly planned and executed the next three days for us. His attention to detail was amazing. We met the team one by one and their service was just great including jeep driver Irosh and tuk tuk driver Anthony. There is a bar, a lovely pool, home cooked food by Tharidu, great people and nice comfy rooms. If you are a fiercely independent traveller who wants to control every minute and rupee this is perhaps not the place for you. The joy of Visu Villa is trusting in Ruwan and his very fair pricing, eating the recommended food, going to the recommended places, being taken care of, having fun with the team and enjoying Sri Lankan hospitality at it's best. Thanks Ruwan and team for a truly memorable three days.

Staying at Sweet Home Tourist Rest turned out to be one of the best decisions we made on our trip to Sri Lanka. It’s rare to find a place that offers both great value and a truly personal touch , but this one does exactly that. Instead of just a room, we had an entire private apartment, including a comfortable living room, which gave us so much space to relax. It was quiet, clean, and located in a peaceful part of town, making it easy to rest and recharge between our adventures. And considering the price, it felt like an absolute steal. What really made this stay unforgettable were the authentic experiences arranged by the hosts. Nilukshan helped us explore some of Sri Lanka’s most iconic sites with thoughtfully organized tours, the Wilpattu safari was stunning, and our visits to Anuradhapura and Mihintale gave us a deep appreciation for the country’s culture and history. Everything was well-timed, smooth, and stress-free. We also had the chance to join a Sri Lankan cooking class with Malsha, which ended up being one of our favorite memories. The class was fun, hands-on, and filled with flavor, we left not just with full stomachs, but with recipes and techniques we can take home with us. If you’re looking for more than just a place to sleep, if you want comfort, authenticity, and connection this is the place. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

The host and hosts family were very very helpful and polite. They helped us in organizing our further adventures. The breakfast was huge and very good. Actually it was like staying in your home. I highly recommend this resort.

Very close to town and the air conditioning was great. The owner is so lovely and organised so much for us. Brought us around on his tuk tuk free of charge. The breakfast was also amazing! Highly recommend. 10mins on a tuk tuk from the train station.

Really good option if you visit this city.
