It was our first time in Taiwan and neither my partner nor I speak Mandarin so it was especially helpful that the hosts are fluent in English. They provided maps and answered questions about things to do in Kaohsiung (which there's a ton - it's a great place to visit). The guesthouse is conveniently located within walking distance of the Lotus Pond and the surrounding temples - a 15 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride or taxi to the High Speed rail station (which of course gets you easily to Kaohsiung from Taipei). If you love film A Touch of Zen is a special treat because the tasteful Japanese decor (the building is a former naval home - traditional Japanese construction) includes some fun film props - and the chance to watch something on Netflix projected in the common area. While we were there the hosts kindly set up a movie for us to watch. The area of the guesthouse itself is great to walk around with wonderful places to eat close by. The beds are comfy with tea and water at your disposal. All around a wonderful place to stay.
