They also allowed us to use the kitchen to cook some fresh shrimp we bought from the local fisherman. The room was comfortable; air conditioning was not even needed because of the excellent fan. There was a comfortable common area for sitting in the evenings and eating meals. It was a short walk to the beach and restaurants. This was exactly what we were looking for -- a relaxed home away from home.

Blue Mall is 7.2 km away and Agora Mall is 7.3 km from the guest house. The location is perfect and great value, the family running it absolutely wonderful. Small wonder so many expats living elsewhere in the DR stay there regularly when in the capital. Evidently you can't expect 5star luxury for 21 € per night, but all is comfy, the retro decor funky and the large shared balcony an additional plus for relaxation. Great to have a private fridge and kitchen access, though we only used it to make coffee during our short stint. Thanks again for waiting until 1 a.m. because our flight was late.

Lots of lovely common space as well, including the outdoors. Shane and her partner are creating a beautiful bajan inspired escape in a gorgeous family villa. This is supported by the most adorable, playful mastiff puppy, Jax (sp?), who is just a dream dog! Chase him till your heart gives out, or let him slobber kiss you into giggles! The location is amazingly close to Oistins and Miami Beach (for swimming). Please be aware this is on top of Oistins hill, and the steps can be steep. But we only did them once or twice a day, so it was a great workout! Pay the extra AC fee! Totally worth it :) Use the Pickup app, and the cabs will find you in minutes. The hosts interact as much as you'd like - but be sure to connect with for booking any services. We hope to keep returning to see Shane continue her wonderful journey!

Offering a garden and quiet street view, casa maria is set in La Romana, 8.1 km from Teeth of the Dog and 12 km from Dye Fore. Bus station to Santo Domingo in walking distance. Very clean place. Hot water in shower. Silent A/C. Spacy living room to meet other travellers. Very nice interior. Fantastic hosts, that were very friendly, exceptional helpful that let one feel really at home. We got pampered. Safe and quiet place to stay. French or Spanish knowledge is an advantage. Have not been to places like this that often.
