Kashta Nubian Guest Houst heeft een tuin, een gedeelde lounge, een terras en een restaurant in Aswan. The guest house is located on the Elephantine island and offers a very peaceful and quiet atmosphere, where one can easily walk to the Nile and spend quality time without any unnecessary noise and chaos. There are multiple restaurants and cafés at walking distance from the guest house. The room was comfortable for a good night's sleep. The highlight was however the owner and his kind hospitality. He goes out of his way to make sure your time is spent without any issues. He also picked me up from the ferry point on my arrival, and dropped me at 3:30 a.m. in the morning.

DoroKa Nubian House heeft een privéstrand, een gedeelde lounge, een terras en een restaurant in Aswan. Sallah the manager was very helpful and polite. The food for every meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner) was excellent. The location of the hotel directly on the Nile is fabulous, and the people in the village were helpful and kind. It was easy to set up travel arrangements to Phyle island and Abu Simbal as well as getting to and from the airport.

Biba is such a lovely host and will make you feel at home immediately. The dorms are spacious, beds are comfortable and have a curtain for privacy. The location is perfect with bazar, restaurants and the local ferry to Elephantine Island just across the road.

Location: Quiet local neighborhood with kids playing on the street around sunset. The house overlooks the Nile. The square in front, flanked by two mosques, has direct access to the river with a small beach for swimming and boat pickups / dropoffs. The main riverside promenade is within 10 minutes walk. There is a proper Carrefour supermarket and ATMs (in the lobby of the Old Cataract hotel next door) on the way. To me, the area felt much nicer and more authentic than Elephantine island. House: Just renovated, the cleanest I've seen in Egypt (especially the kitchen and bathroom). I stayed in a double, which had the necessary amenities. The rooftop is available with pretty sunset views (see attached pic) and a nice chill area, best enjoyed with a tea. Host: Really helpful, English and Spanish speaking, very responsive, with lots of practical travel experience and great recommendations, especially about navigating the local particularities on a budget.

In a region not renowned for backpacking, the owner of this hostel has managed to produce a diamond. The place has a real homely feel , largely thanks to the hostel guests, and the bed spaces are amongst the best I’ve experienced in 200+ hostel stays. Mattress and bedding extremely comfortable. Very spacious. Personal light and sockets. Easy access ladder to top bunk and privacy curtain. Nothing has been omitted.

Nubian Hights guesthouse is gelegen op 19 km van Aga Khan Mausoleum en 4,3 km van Nubisch Museum, en biedt kamers met airconditioning en een eigen badkamer in Ash Shallāl. It’s a beautiful place, build by a retired mother that worked as a teacher and now wants to leave a bussiness for her two dauthers. You can see the love on the place and wanting to do stuff as good as possible. They have little semiapartments with shared half kitchens (not stove but fridge, a sink, glasses and plates), the room I stayed had a balcony with beautiful views to the nile river, had airconditioning but also a fan, so you can chose. The shower has a heater, and though it has an interesting design just in the middle of the toilet, it works and is very good. The owner incredibly nice, very nice person to talk with. Her dauther is the only one doing Bird watching tours in Aswan (even being featured on the Lonely planet).

Aya Hostel is gelegen in Medina, op 3,3 km van Moskee van de Profeet, en biedt kamers met airconditioning. Close to the Masjid, friendly hosts.

Go Inn Backpackers is gelegen in Aswan, op 23 km van Aga Khan Mausoleum, en biedt accommodatie met een tuin, gratis privéparkeren, een gedeelde lounge en een terras. We hebben etteloze zalige momenten beleefd met het personeel. Ze zijn zeer toegankelijk. De locatie is in een volkse buurt, centraal gelegen tot alle schoonheid die Aswan te bieden heeft. Met vragen over eender wat, kun je makkelijk bij de eigenaar terecht, hij spreekt perfect Engels en heeft veel ervaring met reizen. Een halve dag kayakken kan ik zeker aanraden, die heeft Go Inn namelijk voor een eerlijke prijs ter beschikking.
