All rooms at Piece Hostel Sanjo are air conditioned. Some units come with a private shower room and toilet, while there are shared shower rooms and toilets for other guests at the property. Bed linens and towels are provided free of charge. Female-only dormitory rooms are available. The location is great, around 10 minutes walk from the market and bus/metro stations. The stuff has excellent english and very helpful. The room was small but it was enough for us. There are coin laundry and drier which are useful. The hostel looks great, new.

Opened in April 2013 with brand new facilities, Piece Hostel Kyoto is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station. It features a spacious and comfortable lounge, a tatami (woven-straw) terrace and a wall-size map with latest event information around Kyoto. Free WiFi is provided throughout the property, while portable WiFi devices are available for guests to use during their stay for an additional fee.

Private rooms are fitted with a flat-screen TV and a washbasin. A semi-double size bunk (120cm wide) in the dormitory rooms comes with a luggage space and a security locker. It’s locate near the JR Kyoto station. The staffs are very helpful and friendly. The room is small but big enough for me to unpack my 2 luggages at the same time (1 big 1 carry-on). The number of shared shower room are reasonable. (some place has just 3 rooms!) I have a good time stay at Piece Hostel Kyoto.

Attractively located in Kyoto, Guesthouse Go Sign features air-conditioned rooms, a shared lounge and free WiFi. The property is located less than 1 km from Kyoto Shigaku Kaikan Conference Hall, a 13-minute walk from TKP Garden City Kyoto and 2.1 km from Sanjusangen-do Temple. The property is non-smoking and is situated 1.1 km from Kyoto Station.

The rooms in the hostel are fitted with a kettle. The rooms include a shared bathroom with a bidet, free toiletries and a hairdryer. All rooms will provide guests with a fridge. Everyone there was really nice, and it had a very "international house" feel. The main tatami room downstairs was super comfortable to just sit at the kotatsu and talk to people. My bed was also very clean and was very well put together with a light and outlet.

Conveniently located in the centre of Kyoto, Colours offers air-conditioned rooms, a garden, free WiFi and a terrace. This 1-star hostel offers a shared kitchen and luggage storage space. The property is non-smoking and is set 400 metres from Kyoto Shigaku Kaikan Conference Hall. More traditional home style which I preferred. Toru was very nice, helpful, and informative. I liked the nice shared common space that made a communal feeling even though you had a private room. I slept very well!

Guests can choose to stay in dormitory-style rooms or in private rooms. Bathrooms and toilets are shared.

A safety deposit box is provided for storing valuable belongings. Microwave, fridge, freezer, and electric kettle are available. Laundry is also available with limited time and luggage storage is offered at the front desk. It was a nice experience staying in a 150 year old house. Facilities are modern though, but the atmosphere is excellent. The hosts are super friendly and nice. Breakfast is hearty and coffee is available until 10 PM. One of my best stays ever.

Conveniently located in the centre of Kyoto, SHIN kyoto offers air-conditioned rooms, a shared lounge, free WiFi and a terrace. This 2-star hostel offers a shared kitchen. The property is non-smoking and is set 2.2 km from Kyoto Shigaku Kaikan Conference Hall. My room was spacious and so comfortable. Very cool looking too. The shared parts of the house were cleaned daily but because the capacity is smaller it never really got dirty. It was very convenient for me.

Boasting a terrace and views of city, Guest House Hennka Kyoto is situated in Kyoto, 1.4 km from Sanjusangen-do Temple. Featuring a garden, the 2-star hostel has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a private bathroom. The accommodation features a shared kitchen, and luggage storage for guests. We spent 7 nights at this guesthouse, and it was an important part of our wonderful experience in Kyoto. The couple that runs the guesthouse became friends with us. They fed us a delicious breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, and cabbage salad, which we enjoyed every morning. We had a great time talking with the wife (who can speak English conversationally) every morning, as well as the three other couples who came and went during our long stay. This guesthouse is definitely for people who enjoy the experience of meeting other travelers, want to learn about Japan from their hosts, are looking for a getaway from the big cities, and don't mind walking about 20 minutes to and 20 minutes from (uphill) the closest train station. It's not for people who want a reclusive getaway, don't like walking long distances, are looking for a normal hotel experience, or can't navigate steep stairsteps. This guesthouse allows you to live around the locals in a quiet, non-touristy neighborhood. Our twin room was very spacious compared to our budget hotel room in Tokyo, had a traditional feel to it, and was quite comfortable on hot days with the wall-mounted AC. Going to the bathroom or toilet room does involve walking a few steps out onto the balcony attached to your room, but with the house being high in the hills, it still feels reasonably private. This guest room is next to the one other guest room at this property, so you do need to be aware of noise levels. Below the guest rooms is a vacant art gallery space that serves as a large common area that's currently available to guests but may not always be if it's being used as a gallery. Attached to the gallery is a large patio with a view of Kyoto — a great place to sit in the morning or while eating dinner. If you're looking for a wonderful stay in Kyoto that's a little out of the ordinary, and you're an active traveler that wants to experience the non-touristy side of the city, this may be your place.
