Taupo is 40 km from the hostel. Best place I stayed in all of New Zealand!! Sandra is incredibly kind and helpful. Riverstone was a great base to wait out the weather to hike the tongariro crossing. The place itself is super clean and cozy, and has a nice patio to enjoy the sun and a well equipped kitchen.

Klaus, the proprietor, is a fantastic host who loves to chat while he goes about his day. 10/10 experience, can’t wait to come back!!

First of all, all the staff were very friendly, kind and supportive! Anddd very clean and tidy, organized, peaceful. Giving that Japanese capsule hotel vibes, but like backpackers with having private space and interaction with ppl at the same. It was comfortable for me to stay:) Just 15min walk from the central area, I think it’s a very nice location, not too city yet walkable.

One of the nicest hostels I've been to! I loved the location, very beautiful building, and the terrace overlooking the bay is the perfect spot to have breakfast! Shout-out to the staff! They were so nice and helpful (especially Luciano), as a solo traveler it is much appreciated. The bathrooms and showers were clean, the dorms as well.

Taupo is an absolute mecca for all things outdoors – including hiking the famous Tongariro crossing, trout fishing, skydiving, jet boating, white water rafting, mountain biking and sailing on the Great Lake with the hostel's yacht 'Fearless'. Great backpackers. Love the sleeping pods. While we shared an area with strangers, we had our own privacy in the pods (unlike other backpackers and bunk bed styles). Will definitely recommend to family and friends.

The centrally located Rock Solid Backpackers Rotorua offers free WiFi, a neighboring rock-climbing wall and a spacious guest lounge including a tour desk, a billiards table and a cinema. It is just 5 minutes' walk from the Rotorua Visitors Centre and bus stops. The property is within walking distance to a weekly night market. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The kitchen and shared common spaces gave lots of space for different groups to hang out instead of being confined to your room which was nice. It was fairly easy to get to the highway and there is a grocery store within about a 10 minute walk. We didn't get a chance to check it out but it looked like the area had some night life as well as parks.
