Taupo is 40 km from the hostel. Best place I stayed in all of New Zealand!! Sandra is incredibly kind and helpful. Riverstone was a great base to wait out the weather to hike the tongariro crossing. The place itself is super clean and cozy, and has a nice patio to enjoy the sun and a well equipped kitchen.

Taupo is an absolute mecca for all things outdoors – including hiking the famous Tongariro crossing, trout fishing, skydiving, jet boating, white water rafting, mountain biking and sailing on the Great Lake with the hostel's yacht 'Fearless'. The bed bunks are the best! very comfy mattress, lovely privacy curtain and enough space for your stuff. The stairs to te top bunks is big (block of wood) so not painful like most. The chill area in the middle was very nice, kitchen as big, the dog was cool and the staff is the best! I stayed here again on my way back for 4 nights and told all my travel friends to book here.
