Right from the hut: National Park moments Morning is clear. Step outside the hut and you’ll hear water in the distance and the whistle of marmots. A narrow trail begins right next door, leading across alpine meadows and past larches. With every step it grows quieter; now and then a chamois darts across the slope. This is Hohe Tauern National Park in its quiet mode: close, unspoiled, unhurried. Day trip to the Grossglockner: the grand view The Grossglockner is easily reached by car from the hut. Along the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, the high-mountain world opens up with legendary viewpoints like the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe. From there your gaze stretches to the Pasterze glacier; on the Gamsgrubenweg, short tunnel sections tell stories of ice and rock, and with a little patience marmots often appear by the wayside.
