We have more to offer than a chalet and bed for the night. Sleeping up to 8 people in 4 ensuite bedrooms Houghton Haus offers our guests a bespoke experience ideal for families, friends and groups. Constructed from sustainably sourced timber and erected using local trades people, the building complements its setting within the Alpine Pearl Village of Mallnitz. The full height atrium window of the open plan living area immerses you in the Mountains and Valleys of the Hohe Tauern National Park all the time affording you the Alpine experience without leaving the door. All the bedrooms have the versatility to be set up as double or twin rooms. Two bedrooms are located downstairs and have been specifically designed to enable access for anyone. The larger of these two rooms has its own door opening up onto the front patio. With level entry throughout the ground floor, wide doors and modern ensuite wetrooms our ground floor offers ease of access for wheelchair users. Upstairs sees a further two ensuite bedrooms situated either side of a large mezzanine lounge. This versatile space offers further seating as well as a collection of books and games.

Run by Jayne and Patrick Houghton we have over 30 years combined experience working within adventure tourism, the last 10 years working within the disability tourism sector. We have a deep love of the outdoors and during our time in the UK we would be away camping, climbing or canoeing at every given opportunity. We decided to take the jump and set up Houghton Haus after multiple trips to the Alps. We noticed a huge lack of disability friendly accommodation and understanding and decided to set up Houghton Haus so everybody, regardless of age or ability could have a holiday in the mighty Alps and enjoy what the area has to offer. Situated in the village of Mallnitz in the Hohe Tauern national park we are surrounded by 3000m peaks with Hiking, Climbing and Via ferrata on the doorstep and numerous long-distance hiking and biking trails passing by our door. For the water keen there is Carinthia's longest canoe paddle route a short drive away and multiple boat trips, canoe hire, rafting experiences and outdoor swimming venues close by. It’s a great base for an adventure and to add to this just 20 minutes down the road is year-round skiing on the Mölltal Glacier. The village of Mallnitz has all the amenaties you could need within 15minutes walk of the house. These include the Billa supermarket, swimming pool, national park visitor centre, bank, bakery, restaurants, cafes and bars.
