The house was constructed by local sawmiller, Peter Cunningham, in 1981 and renovated in 2024. It features Tasmanian specialty timbers including Huon Pine, King Billy Pine, Blackwood, Celery Top Pine, and Black Heart Sassafras. It’s situated on a ridge overlooking Narawntapu National Park and this is best viewed from the four outdoor baths or the wood fired sauna. Experience off-grid living without compromise. Quality king size beds in four of the five bedrooms split into twin singles and make this the perfect place for two families or up to four couples. There are no neighbours and the only sounds you’ll hear are birds and the wind in the trees. It’s an amazing location to enjoy sitting around the fire pit, look at the stars without any artificial light interference, and marvel at the Southern Lights (Aurora Australis). Go for a walk and there’s a good chance you’ll see a Forester kangaroo (up to 2m tall) and other extensive wildlife. There are Tasmanian Devils on the property but you’ll need to be out and about at night to see them.

Craig & Deb sold their accounting and consulting business in 2022 and have made a terrible mess of their retirement. They are busier than ever and have undertaken several diverse renovation and development projects including 4 short term accommodation projects. They renovate properties to a standard as if they were going to live there. They live close by in Devonport and have 5 children and 2 dogs. They have another property in the Bakers Beach area and have spent a lot of time there and in Narawntapu National Park developing a strong knowledge of the area and its history. They are enthusiastic to share this special place with locals and tourists. They love Tasmania and enjoy short trips away to explore new places.

The key attraction of Ten Fifty Bakers is that there are no neighbours in the neighbourhood. The house is in the middle of the 460ha native forest property overlooking Narawntapu National Park to the north and with state forest to the east. Enjoy the peace and quiet. Listen to the birds (over 30 species). Wonder at the stars away from the city lights. Be amazed by the 2m tall Forester Kangaroos and other abundant native fauna. Marvel at remote wilderness, the views and peace ant quiet. And all this only 30 minutes from Devonport and 60 minutes from Launceston. There’s a Woolworths supermarket, cafes and shops even closer (20 minutes) at Port Sorell. The 4,349ha National Park was established in 1976 and is often referred to as the “Serengeti of Tasmaina” due to the abundant wildlife. The park features amazing walking tracks, beautiful coastal views, a 7km beach, opportunity for horse riding, kayaking, boating, fishing and is a haven for birds and bird watchers. Ten Fifty Bakers is also an excellent base to explore (all within 45 minutes) beautiful Greens Beach, Seahorse World, Platypus House, Anvers Chocolate Factory, Beaconsfield Mine Heritage Centre, Tasmanian Arboretum, Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Trails, Lillico Beach penguins, Don River Railway, Notley Fern Gorge, Hawley Beach, Ashgrove Cheese, Home Hill (residence of Tasmania’s only Prime Minister), Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm and numerous other local attractions. An additional 15 minutes gets you to the amazing Tasmania Zoo, Sheffield (town of murals), Launceston and 100’s of other attractions and activities. Local wineries (Ghost Rock and Eastford Creek) and less than 25 minutes’ drive and the famous Tamar Valley wineries are within an hour’s drive.
