Coorong Waterfront Retreat is one of a few properties directly overlooking the Coorong National Park, a 140km stretch of RAMSAR listed wetland of international significance. Birdlife is a feature of the Park, in particular during spring and summer when international shorebirds arrive from as far as Siberia. The comfortable interior of the house provides the perfect retreat after kayaking, trekking or generally exploring the Park. It’s also a relaxing refuge from the pace of city life with all the comforts of home.

Owners Dean and Wendy were originally attracted to the Coorong due to its peaceful remote location and rich cultural and environmental heritage. Originally from Adelaide they have now moved permanently to the area (up on the hill behind the Retreat) and enjoy exploring the remoter areas of the Park and building their knowledge of the area. Coorong Waterfront Retreat is their only holiday house so it receives their full attention.

Coorong Waterfront Retreat is nestled amongst a small, peaceful waterfront settlement of holiday houses, shacks and a few permanent residences. It is one of the few built locations fronting the Coorong National Park. The waterfront is rugged, natural and undeveloped. The Coorong (saline lagoon) stretches for 50kms in either direction and the water crossing in front of the Retreat is 2kms. Much of the crossing is shallow although it does exceed head height in parts. A commercial fisher can sometimes be spotted setting a small net for Coorong mullet (prized through Australia) directly out from the Retreat. The shoreline varies throughout the year but there is always space for making your way along the waterfront to explore or to launch the kayaks.
