Welcome to Doorila Beach House, East Bedarra Island. We are delighted to share the experience of this special place, which we purchased recently, with you, your family and friends. We believe that Bedarra Island is the closest thing to a tropical paradise that you can find in Australia, and Doorila Beach House is a signature property on the island. The property is positioned near the water’s edge on a private two-acre estate which wraps around a palm framed, white sand beach. Here, you can swim or snorkel in the warm clear turquoise waters of the Coral Sea. We hope you have a wonderful stay and take away great memories - we certainly do every time we stay here!

We provide all linen - including beach towels and we have basic pantry items - olive oil, salt and pepper, tea and coffee, soy sauce, paper towel, glad wrap, dishwashing liquid, toilet paper, etc.. There is a gas cooker and oven in the kitchen of the main house and an outside Weber BBQ (with pizza stone) for cooking. There are 2 large fridge/ freezers located in the main house. There are 3 buildings: The main house is a double story 2-bedroom dwelling with king beds in both rooms, both of which lead to outside decks. There is also a separate pavilion with a king size bed and bathroom as well as a renovated cottage that was once owned by Noel Woods, the Australian artist, that has its own kitchen, queen size bed and outdoor shower and toilet. The house has satellite internet, ‘WiFi calling’ and DVD players.

On the lower level of the main house, there is a sports room with fishing hand lines, snorkels, masks, flippers and some beach accessories. Life jackets are available and recommended. Swimming / Snorkelling: Spend your days exploring the surrounding turquoise waters and the endless supply of tropical fish and beautifully coloured coral. Fishing: There are some great fishing spots around the island (e.g.: off Turtle Rock in front of the house!) or a boat trip (Mission Beach Charters) can be arranged to local fishing spots. Kayaking: We have a double and a single kayak, on the rack behind the artist’s studio and a stand-up paddle board. Walking: There are maintained trails on which you can explore the island or rocks to clamber over along the shoreline - closed shoes recommended. Bedarra, which is Aboriginal for perennial water, is a true tropical island with high rainfall and lush rainforests. The artist, Noel Wood, built the studio, the original dwelling on the site. He lived the life of a recluse on the island for 45 years – having travelled overseas occasionally to pursue his work as an artist. However, the spell of Bedarra always drew him back.
