Being a host allows us to learn what it's like to manage our own business. Managing customer reviews, answering questions, responding to complaints, dealing with bookings, etc. It's a lot of work, but a great learning experience. We also learn a lot from the people staying at our guesthouse. Whether they are locals or people traveling for work or for leisure, each person we host is unique. There are so many cultures and life experiences we can learn from. Being retired it is a way of us keeping busy by preparing our guesthouse for new guests, while also staying connected with society and not being so socially isolated as many people do when they become more mature.
Rocky Cape is a locality and small rural community in the local government areas of Circular Head and Waratah-Wynyard, in the North-west and west region of Tasmania. It is located about 30 kilometres (19 mi) north-west of the town of Wynyard. The Bass Highway passes through from south-east to north-west. The Rocky Cape National Park is in the north-east of the locality. The 2016 census determined a population of 206 for the state suburb of Rocky Cape. In exploring the North-West, base yourself at Old School Rocky Cape where you are only a short distance to coastal drives, beautiful beaches, food trails, national parks and the amazing Tarkine. Stanley is a historic village in Tasmania, nestled at the base of The Nut, a sheer-sided bluff. Here are some points of interest you can visit in Stanley and nearby: -The Nut State Reserve: You can hike or take a chairlift to the top of this volcanic plug and enjoy panoramic views of the coast and wildlife. -Highfield Historic Site: You can explore the ruins of a 19th-century farmstead that was once the headquarters of the Van Diemen’s Land Company. -Stanley Seal Cruise: You can take a boat tour to see Australian fur seals, dolphins, seabirds and other marine life in their natural habitat. -Stanley Discovery Museum: You can learn about the history and culture of Stanley through exhibits, artefacts and stories. -Joe Lyons Cottage: You can visit the birthplace of Joseph Lyons, the only Tasmanian prime minister of Australia. -Table Cape: You can drive to this scenic plateau that overlooks the Bass Strait and is famous for its tulip farms and lighthouse. -Cow ‘n’ Calf Art Gallery: You can admire and buy artworks by local artists, including paintings, photographs, jewellery and ceramics. I hope this helps you plan your trip. Have fun!
