The location is excellent for a central base to tour the Island. We completed the build in 2018. Each apartment has sea and valley views, plus their own separate entry and car park. The modern build has Jarrah floors, large windows, airconditioning, ceiling fans, a full kitchen, and own bathroom plus 6 star energy rating so its comfortable and is sited to get the best views of the Ocean and the valley. The sky views are amazing as the property is designed on the side of a hill and overlooks the sea and valley plus the expansive sky views. We are on the edge of a tiny village of approx 300 people so just enough eateries without the congestion, and there is the feeling of being a part of the local community but still in bushland and of course with a great view out and across the Ocean / Bay called Eastern Cove. The apartments are airy in summer yet cosy and light even in winter. The design just works all year round. The native wildlife is literally at the doorstep! The birds constantly move around the property and wallabies, Kangaroos, goannas, echidnas and all manner of frogs and lizards just move through on their way to finding a meal. It has been great to see our Island again through each guest's eyes as they relax and let the magic of this island and the helpful manner of the locals have a positive effect on them.

This home and the apartments had been a long standing dream and it just took a while to change over from a busy life in Adelaide to actually enjoy Kangaroo Island and American River which has a close knit small community of approx 300 residents. We now get time to go fishing and sailing with friends and of course have the time to help guests settle in and get the most from their holiday on Kangaroo island. We have travelled a lot around the world and appreciate that travellers like cleanliness and modern facilities, something cosy and in a central spot for their travels, with just a bit of activity in places to eat and drink nearby, plus some local knowledge and comfort that we are there to help if they get lost! We also appreciate that travellers like to do some of their own discovering to find some of the treasures of this Island on their own!

American River is recognised as 'the jewel in the crown' of Kangaroo Island. This is because of the waterways. Pelican Lagoon is a large conservation area for over 100 years with Eastern Cove the bay which American River is nestled against. This cove is picturesque and a place where the locals sail their yachts and fish for whiting, snook, salmon, flathead, tommies, squid etc. The local Jetty is a good place to catch a feed of squid or even salmon as they school in the channel. The weather is moderated by the sea breezes and we sited the home to be protected from the winter wind yet keep the sea and valley views and it just works well. Even on a cold evening you can sit out on the deck of the apartment sheltered /protected from wind and watch the sky, animals and birds.
