Welcome to the Neighbor­hood — and to Yellowknife Northern Solace is located in Niven Lake one of Yellowknife’s most interesting areas. Niven lake is close to the Downtown / Franklin Avenue area and the historic Old Town, both of which have very different but complementary vibes. The downtown core is where many of the city’s main shops, restaurants, and services are (including boutique shops, pubs, and government buildings). Old Town, over on the rocky point by Great Slave Lake, is where Yellowknife’s origin-story lives — heritage buildings, houseboats, and a real frontier feel Things to Do Nearby / Must-See Spots 1. Northern Lights Yellowknife is one of the best places in the world to see the Aurora Borealis/Northern Lights . Tours run frequently, and local guides can take you to prime viewing spots. 2. Dog Sledding Experience traditional dog sled rides — there are operators that run sled tours from nearby. Museums & Cultural Sites 3. Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre This is Yellowknife’s signature museum. It covers Indigenous history, early exploration, mining heritage, natural history, and more. It’s situated near Frame Lake, making it a good stop if guests also want to walk around the lake. 4. Yellowknife Legislative Assembly Building Architecturally distinctive, located on Frame Lake, and offers tours. Inside, guests can view Indigenous artwork and interesting artifacts (e.g., a polar bear-hide rug in the Chamber). 5. Fireweed Studio A heritage log cabin near Somba K’e Park / City Hall. It now houses a gift shop/gallery run by the Yellowknife Guild of Arts & Crafts — great place for local art, souvenirs, and small handcrafted items.
