THE HOLIDAYS HOME DES GORGES, with a garden and barbecue, is located next to the Birse River. It features a terrace and garden with views of the Birse River and the Gorges Mountains. The well-equipped kitchen includes an oven, microwave, and toaster, and the bathroom has a walk-in shower and a flat-screen TV. There is also a seating area and a fireplace. Guests can relax by the outdoor fireplace. Schaulager is 47 km away, while St. Jakob Park is 48 km away. EuroAirport Basel is 55 km away. HISTORY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT: The house was opened in 1980 by the Prévotoise section of the Swiss Alpine Club (CAS). This very active section has almost 600 members of all ages. In addition to organizing mountain excursions, it promotes responsible behavior in nature and its conservation, as well as the upkeep of its 153 mountain huts and houses throughout Switzerland. In 2024 they decided to sell and it became the Maison des Gorges, but always keeping the spirit of the CAS association.

*** DINOSAUR FOOTPRINT SITE: In 2017, dinosaur footprints were discovered near the MAISON DES GORGES. They are approximately 152 million years old. They are embedded in the sediments of the Reu-Chenette Formation and are believed to belong to herbivorous dinosaurs. It was probably a Brachiosaurus that passed by millions of years ago. This dinosaur measured between 25 and 30 meters long and weighed up to 20 tons. The average summer water temperature at that time is estimated to have been 24°C. The rocks (around 150 million years old) on which the brontosaurs left their footprints subsequently hardened and acquired their current rugged position during the folding of the Jurassic Range. *** THE HIKING TRAILS are very diverse, but all are true natural gems. From above, the panorama and the view of the impressive gorges are indescribable. The rocky walls and forests exude a special charm. There are eight trails, including hiking routes. *** THE BIRSE RIVER is a tributary of the Rhine that flows through Moutier behind the house and continues through the stunning gorge known as the Moutier Gorges. *** A PARADISE FOR CLIMBERS, MOUNTAINEERS, AND HIKERS! *** THE SIKYPARK ZOO, an animal rescue park located in Crémines, is 6.6 km from the house. It is easily accessible by car or train (stop "Crémines Zoo"). It features a variety of animals, including felines, birds of prey, and reptiles, and is open year-round.
