Pavsaniou street ,where Nikis House is located , is in the center of the old village of Agios Athanasios. Before 1974 Agios Athanasios was a small village which by the years was expanded and currently is a city of 16000 citizens. A town Hall ,very close to Nikis House ,was recently built and the square around the Hall has been renovated .The library is in the same area ,the renovation is finished and it is open for visitors every afternoon. On Pavsaniou street all houses are made from stone and wood and visitors will enjoy the tranquility and peace of the area. Many of the houses have been renovated under the governmental scheme for the protection of heritage .Very close to Nikis House there is also a traditional tavern with live music which serves "meze".The house of the first mayor of Agios Athanasios is in this street and it has also been recently renovated to accommodate the museum of local culture and art .It will open as soon as all the works are completed .
