Alcalá de Henares, a city declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1998, just 30 kilometers from the capital, the birthplace of Cervantes is an ideal place to walk, explore its streets and squares, visit its museums and monuments, eat in one of its good restaurants, have a coffee or a drink at sunset on one of its terraces and take home some typical sweets as a souvenir, among which the sugared almonds and the crust stand out, which is a meringue, cream and puff pastry cake. With more than 2,000 years of history, the city keeps treasures such as “Complutum”, one of the leading Roman enclaves in Spain. Medieval Alcalá, with its Christian, Jewish and Muslim neighborhoods, keeps spaces with memories of mosques and synagogues, churches, offices and places that gave shape and character to a town full of contrasts and an example of coexistence.
