As a Dutch-Spanish couple with extensive experience in the hospitality industry, we are dedicated to providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Situated along the famed Camino de Santiago de Compostela, La Rosa del Agua serves as a comfortable refuge for pilgrims and travelers from all walks of life. La Rosa del Agua is a beautifully restored stone and oak house with slate roofs typical of the Bierzo region of Leon and located directly on the Camino de Santiago. For 200 years this historic dwelling was the first sign of civilization and hospitality coming down the mountain from the Cruz de Ferro welcoming tired hungry 18th and 19th century Pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. Proof of La Rosa del Aguas´s history is evidenced by its delicately restored 18th century log burning stone oven that in its day baked bread for its inhabitants as well as the village of El Acebo de San Miguel. The 6 cm thick oak exterior doors on each floor and its iron hardware also date back to the 1800´s. The guest common area includes a similarly restored kitchen and dining area where our guests can prepare a complementary tea or coffee and enjoy it on the balcony with a village view, breathing in the fresh mountain air and disconnecting from the routine or curled up in the lounge area with a good book. Guests may also find a small refrigerator stored with water, cold drinks and more. A kettle, coffeemaker and microwave are at your disposal to make you feel at home. .

Set in the heart of the El Bierzo mountain region of Leon one can explore several hike and bike trails and discover nearby streams, rivers and waterfalls. Other points of interest include a short distance hike to the mystical and iconic Cruz de Ferro (Hierro. Sitting at approximately 1,500m elevation it’s the highest point within Spain on the French Camino. The Forge of Compludo is a National Monument and located in the next door village of Compludo. The Forge houses a working mallet and hydraulic wheel displaying an engineering marvel from medieval times that provides the necessary air pressure to create the super high heat to forge metal. Also, less than an hour's drive away you can visit the spectacular geography of Las Medulas, a UNESCO world heritage site where remains of pre-Roman gold mines can be explored.
